The Morehouse Triangle Alumni Association (MTAA) is proud to announce its Inaugural Scholarship, dedicated to supporting high school seniors who plan to attend a Historically Black College or University (HBCU) for the Fall 2025 semester.
HBCUs have been instrumental in shaping generations of Black leaders, scholars, and professionals, fostering academic excellence, cultural pride, and community empowerment. This scholarship reflects MTAA’s commitment to investing in the next generation by providing financial support to students who embody the values of leadership, service, and perseverance.
Through this initiative, we aim to uplift and inspire future HBCU graduates, ensuring they have the resources and encouragement to excel and continue the legacy of excellence that defines our institutions.
Eligibility Requirements:
- The applicant must be a graduating high school senior (male or female) at the time the application is submitted.
- The applicant must be a North Carolina resident.
- The applicant must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
- The applicant must have been accepted and anticipant on attending a Historically Black College and University for the Fall 2025 semester.
- The applicant must provide (1) academic letter of recommendation and (1) community service letter of recommendation. (see application for more specifics)
Requirements for Application Submission
The applicant must complete and submit a full application packet by the provided extended deadline of Sunday, May 4, 2025 deadline, which includes the following:
- Completion of the online Scholarship Application in its entirety.
- (1) Official High School Transcript with the school's official seal. Physcial transcripts should be submitted by the school's counselor and mailed to the P.O. Box indicated below.
- Two signed letters of recommendation from (1) an official high school representative (on letterhead) and (2) a community service representatitive or community leader. Each letter must be addressed to the Morehouse Triangle Alumni Association & upload it to the application. It must be in PDF ONLY and dated within this range February 11, 2025- May 4, 2025
- An essay of 250-500 words on one of the four topics below typed in 12-point font, double-spaced, and Times New Roman:
- 1. "What an HBCU Education Means to Me". Reflect on the significance of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) in the Black community. Discuss why attending an HBCU is important to you, how it aligns with your personal goals, and how you envision it empowering you to make a difference in your family, community, and future career.
- 2."Lessons from My Father or a Father Figure" Reflect on how a father, father figure, or male role model has influenced your values, aspirations, or outlook on life as you prepare for the next chapter.
- 3. "HBCUs as a Gateway to Leadership and Social Change" Write about how you envision using your education at an HBCU to address social issues or create positive change in your community and beyond.
- 4. "Building a Brighter Future Despite Economic Uncertainty"How do you plan to navigate financial challenges, pursue higher education, and contribute to creating a better future for yourself and others?
- Please make sure to include your name, date, and which essay topic you choose before crafting your response to the essay prompt.
- ALL UPLOADED DOCUMENTS (unofficial transcript, letters of recommendation, essay) MUST BE IN PDF FORM ONLY. Points will be deducted if not uploaded in the proper format.
Note: ACT and SAT scores are optional, but welcomed as part of your application if you believe it will help strengthen your application.
Award Selection Process:
The number of scholarships awarded and the amounts may vary based on the applicant pool and available funding. A committee of MTAA members will review all application packets to select recipients.
Recipients will be notified at least 3 weeks in advance if they were selected. However, the amount will be announced during the Father’s Day Scholarship Brunch, held on Saturday, June 14, 2025. Amounts will vary from $250- $2,000.
