FAQ
- The medications are generally safe and effective for weight loss.
  
  They work by controlling hunger and decreasing cravings.
  
  We look at each case and only prescribe medications based on your clinical history.
  
  We help manage side effects on ongoing basis.
  
  This is not a quick fix – It takes effort and long term behavior change
- The most common side effects are mild nausea, constipation and/or diarrhea. These are managed by starting low and increasing dosage slow. The body gets used to the medication and these symptoms typically resolve.
  
  Things you can do to manage side effects while you have them:
  1. Eat bland, low-fat foods, like crackers, toast and rice
  2. Eat foods that contain water, like soups and gelatin
  3. Avoid fried, greasy or sweet foods
  4. Avoid lying down after you eat
  5. Go outdoors for fresh air
  6. Eat more slowly
  7. Drink clear or ice-cold drinks
- We look at diet and activity behaviour modifications in addition to using medication to support these changes.
  
  Some weight regain may occur but the long term behaviour changes help keep the weight off
- We are able to submit special authorization requests to your insurance following the initial appointment.
- Following the initial appointment we issue a general bloodwork requistion (if applicable). The test can be completed at any Alberta Percision Labs at no charge with an Alberta Health Card. Results typically take 24-48hrs.
