Sara Bareilles Awards Student Reporter Application 2025

Each year, the Jimmy Awards® invites select Student Reporters from participating Regional Awards Programs to cover Jimmy Awards events in NYC through social media. Student Reporters work directly with the Jimmy Awards Digital team, which allows them to receive an insider look at the digital marketing strategy of Jimmy Awards coverage while gaining insight into the field as a whole. Student Reporters for the Jimmys are selected from a pool of nominees submitted by Regional Awards Programs. Any student attending a school whose production is registered for the Sara Bareilles Awards but not performing in that production is eligible to apply. Application closes on Sunday, March 23 at 11:59pm PT.

Student Reporters selected by the Sara Bareilles Awards will be invited to attend the Sara Bareilles Awards ceremony at San Francisco’s Orpheum Theatre on Sunday, May 18 and cover the event through the @sarabareillesawards Instagram page. Student Reporters will have the unique opportunity to collaborate with BroadwaySF’s Digital team to create engaging content and experience what it’s like to cover a large-scale awards show, in preparation for a possible trip to the Jimmys. Student Reporters selected by the Sara Bareilles Awards will also be submitted to the Jimmy Awards for consideration. The Jimmys will then select and notify 2 Student Reporters from the national applicant pool by early June. Those selected will be sent to New York City to cover the Jimmys from June 21-24, all expenses paid. 

Applicants must attend high schools that have registered or will register their production for the 2025 Sara Bareilles Awards. Applicants may not be performers from registered productions. However, they may be otherwise involved in the production (stage crew, costumes, choreography, etc). Applicants should be passionate about journalism, social media, content creation, and the performing arts.  

In early April, applicants will be notified of whether they've been chosen to cover the Sara Bareilles Awards. Those selected will also have their videos submitted to the Jimmy Awards for further consideration. The Jimmy Awards will then notify their two selected Student Reporters from the national Applicant pool by early June.
