The SJMBC Scholars ministry is dedicated to supporting students who demonstrate strong faith, a commitment to their community, and a passion for academic and personal growth. These scholarships are designed to empower individuals who integrate their faith into their lives and aspire to make a positive impact on the world. We encourage applicants to share their unique journeys, achievements, and aspirations as they apply for this opportunity.

Below are the minimum requirements for eligibility to both the Jacob L. & Etty Chatman and the Jessi Shropshire Community Servant scholarships:

1.      Must be a member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church

2.      Must have a minimum of 2.0 GPA through 1st semester of senior year.

3.      Application deadline: May 18th, 2026

All applicants must complete Sections 1, 2, 3, 5 and 6.

Section 4 is only required for those applying to both the Jacob L. & Etty Chatman scholarship & the Jessi Shropshire Community Servant scholarship.

Note: You may apply to both scholarships, however, applicants can only be awarded one.
If selected, you will be asked for documentation to support the data you provide including college acceptance and enrollment. Likewise, all correspondence and award agreements will be generated from the personal information submitted below. So, please use proper spelling, capitalization and punctuation.

IV. Sis.Jessie Shropshire Community Servant Scholarship
Essay Questions (required for the Jessi Shropshire Scholarship*)(Answer both in 500-750 words each)
How has your faith shaped your character and values? Provide specific examples of how your faith has influenced your decisions, relationships, and outlook on life.
How do you plan to use your education to make a positive impact? Explain how you intend to integrate your faith into your future professional life and community service.
Note: You can submit your essay response in a word document (along with your transcripts and letters of recommendation) via email if you prefer. Send your document to serenity425.nb@gmail.com. In the subject line, please type SJMBC Scholarship Essay Submission.
V. Letter of Recommendation
Submit two letters of recommendation (via email to serenity425.nb@gmail.com)
1. One from a faith leader (e.g., pastor, priest, youth leader).
2. One from a teacher, counselor, or academic advisor.
VI. Additional Documentation
Submit the following Additional Documents (via email to serenity425.nb@gmail.com)

• High school/college transcripts
• A recent photograph
• If selected, proof of enrollment or acceptance into an accredited institution
