North American Hand Papermakers offers a limited number of scholarships to its annual conference for students/interns and for individuals. The scholarships are awarded upon application to people with demonstrated need who will benefit from conference attendance. NAHP scholarships allow students and others of modest means to participate in our conferences. If you would not otherwise be able to afford this year’s conference, perhaps a scholarship would help to make it possible.
Scholarships cover conference registration and the banquet when the conference is in-person. As available, limited travel funds may also be awarded to cover part of an applicant’s travel and lodging, and which will be paid to the applicant.
Applications are reviewed by the conference scholarship committee and awards are approved by the NAHP board which appropriates the funds. In addition, a limited number of scholarships are awarded to individual papermakers on the basis of need in memory of Barbara Bradley, a long-time member of the Friends of Dard Hunter and North American Hand Papermakers.
Eligibility: Scholarship Applicants must be 18 years of age and a current member of NAHP to apply for a scholarship. Please note that you are ineligible for consideration if you have received a NAHP/FDH scholarship within the last three years you may not apply this year, although you may apply again after the three year waiting period. Selection is based upon the amount of funds available. If, in any given year, the number of applicants exceeds the amount of funds available, selections and travel awards will be made by the NAHP Executive Committee. All applicants will be notified in a timely manner after the deadline to allow for the completion of travel plans.
Conference Registration: Please do not register for the conference until you receive notification of the scholarship award.
Travel funds. NAHP anticipates having limited funds to help defray some travel and lodging costs for scholarship recipients. These funds can cover some travel and lodging costs, in the form of a cash reimbursal, equal to the amount in your award letter, after you present proof of travel via email (e.g., copy of your flight itinterary or ticket). (We anticipate sending funds by cash transfer or check.)
About the Scholarship Fund
Each year at our annual conference we raise funds for scholarships through cash donations and the silent auctions. These funds are then applied to the scholarships the following year.

Submit your scholarship application form online. We cannot confirm in advance that you will receive a scholarship or the cash amount, if any.
Applications are due no later than June 29, 2025 at 11:59PM CDT.
Selection notifications will go out no later than the week of July 7, 2025 at which time you will be asked to register using our online registration form.
(Please note that all scholarship recipients are expected to volunteer up to 4 hours of their time at the conference)
