The Requirements of a Sponsor:

The Church sees the sponsor (God-parent) as a fully-initiated Catholic who supports the one receiving the sacrament by their example of participating in the Sunday Eucharist and belonging to a parish community. Because of the seriousness of this ministry, the Church has the following requirements:

1. The sponsor must be a fully initiated member of the Catholic Church through Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist.
2. The sponsor must be at least sixteen (16) years of age.
3. The sponsor must have an active life of faith in the Church and provide good example.

NEW Parent and NEW Sponsor Formation Session:

If you are a Sponsor for the first time, you are required to attend any formation class, at Immaculate Conception, usually the third Sunday of the month, or you can attend one at your own parish at their scheduled time.

If you have already attended a class or have been a sponsor previously and attended a formaiton class at that time, you are not required to attend a class for this particular baptism.
