  • WELCOME!

The Steamboat Island Preschool is a nonprofit community school operated by enrolled families.  We admit students of any race, color, national, or ethnic origin and grant them all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities made available to students at the school.  It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national, or ethnic origin in administration of its educational or admissions policies, or other school-administered programs.  Students are enrolled on a first come, first served basis.  Registration forms and fees are due upon enrollment.  All parents who will have contact with the children through substitute teaching or volunteering will be required to have a Criminal History Background Check via Washington State Patrol. The Certificate of Immunization Status needs to be completed and turned in before your child's first day of school.

WHAT IS THE PHILOSOPHY OF THE COMMUNITY PRESCHOOL?

Steamboat Island Community Preschool is a family based experience, which promotes an attitude of genuine caring by parents for all of the children.  Children of this age learn best through exploration, play, and social interaction.  We provide a stimulating, well planned environment with learning centers set up for art, science, pre math manipulatives, table games, puzzles, blocks, dramatic play, carpentry, sensory table activities and books.  Our planned activities include stories, music, movement, art, group discussions, cooking projects, and field trips.  We want our children to meet with recurring successes and feel a sense of accomplishment.  This is achieved when activities are geared to their level of development.

    Important goals include:

    • positive self image
    • curiosity, exploration, & problem solving skills
    • self direction and decision making skills
    • imagination and creativity
    • attention span and thinking skills
    • small and large motor skills
    • self discipline and independence
    • mindset growth
    • verbal expression of feelings and thoughts
