Greetings,
Manatee County and the City of Bradenton are rich in historical traditions with one being the De Soto Heritage Festival, held each year in April. Since 1941, a Queen has been chosen to reign, travel and participate in reciprocating festivals as she becomes the community ambassador for one year.
If chosen you will become a part of the Royal Family representing our organization right here in our own community, possible travel across our country, and our sister city, Barcarrota, Spain. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to network, improve your leadership skills, mentor a young person on the De Soto Mini Court, participate in parades, volunteer in community functions, welcome visiting dignitaries, be featured at the Queen Selection Program, and showcased at the Investiture and Coronation Ball.
Rehearsals begin in January and culminate with the Grand Parade on the last Saturday in April. A $750.00 scholarship is presented to court members who satisfactorily complete their time on the court. The Queen and Princess receive additional scholarships at the completion of their reign.
To be eligible the participant must absolutely be at least 18 years of age, one day prior to the current year De Soto ball, but not over 22, in good standing for graduation, a permanent resident of Manatee County for the past six months, unmarried, has no children, be free of any charges or convictions of a crime, and be free of any involvement in illegal drugs.
We would like to share more about the Queen’s Court and welcome you and your parents to attend a Queen’s Court Information Social to be held on Sunday, November 1, 2026, at 2:00 PM.
The Queen’s Court Committee reviews numerous applications, and if selected, you will be asked to interview on Saturday, November 28, or Sunday, November 29, 2026. You will be scored on character, poise, personality, availability to the festival, and eagerness to serve. During the interview, you will be asked questions concerning your family, community involvement and your interest in our De Soto Heritage Festival. The top applicants chosen to participate on the 2027 Queen’s Court will be notified by email or phone call within one week of the interview. It is indeed a great honor to follow in the footsteps of so many beautiful De Soto Royalty.
