• Thank you for considering volunteering at Run the Red! All volunteer times will take place on Saturday, September 26th, 2026 (unless otherwise indicated). You may choose as many time slots that works in your schedule. Please be sure the volunteer times do not overlap. If you have time conflicts that do not match the times exactly, you can still sign up. Please just email us the time conflict so we can plan accordingly. runthereddesert@gmail.com

    All volunteers will receive a longsleeve hooded shirt. If weather permits, we would appreciate you wearing your shirt so runners can identity you as a volunteer.

  • Course Marking 

    • Report to: Race Directors and Course Coordinator 
    • Where: South Pass City or Horse Creek Overlook
    1. Collect flagging and course markers before assigned shift. 
    2. Download gpx files and review course maps
    3. Place flagging a minimum of every ¼ mile to direct racers. 

    *Some course marking can be completed by vehicle with higher clearance. For reference, a 2015 Subaru Forester is capable of driving most of the roads. Please be prepared to hike your section, which may be up to 8 miles. Shorter sections are available and each course marker will be placed to meet individal needs and abilities. Please sign up if interested and we will be in contact with you to ensure you assigned to an appropriate section.

    3. Hand out t-shirts to runners who order them
    4. Ensure drop bags are labeled accurately with runner name and bib number

    2. Run/hike after the start of the race
    3. Ensure all runners make it to the check in
    4. Report injuries, as needed
    5. Get a ride back to vehicle/finish with the aid station crew. (We can help cooridnate rides and work with the aid sattions. If you are volunteering at an aid station, this could be a great add on position from the aid station you are working at.)

  • Kids Race Support

    • Report to: Gabe 
    • Where: Finish, South Pass City

    The kids race will be a 30 minute race allowing kids to run as many laps as they wish to in 30 minutes. After each lap, kids will receive a bracelette to count their laps.

    1. Handout bibs for the 30 minute race, immediately after awards.
    2. Hand out lap counters to kids or direct kids around course.
    3. Celebrate each kid as they complete a lap!
