  • Thank you for considering volunteering at Run the Red! All volunteer times will take place on Saturday, September 27th, 2025. You may choose as many time slots that works in your schedule. Please be sure the volunteer times do not overlap. If you have time conflicts that do not match the times exactly, you can still sign up. Please just email us the time conflict so we can plan accordingly. runthereddesert@gmail.com

    All volunteers will receive a shirt. If weather permits, we would appreciate you wearing your shirt so runners can identity you as a volunteer.

  • VOLUNTEER SHIFTS

    Please select one or more volunteer shift(s) from the list below. 


  • Finish Line Setup and Cleanup

    • Where: Finish Line, South Pass City
    • Report to: Gabe and Jenny
    1. Set up tents / Take down tents
    2. Set up /take down finish line flagging
    3. Hang /take down banners

  • Racer Check in 

    • Where: Whitehorse Creek Overlook
    • Report to: Gabe
    1. Help set up tables for check in
    2. Hand out assigned bib numbers according to registration sheet
    3. Hand out t-shirts to runners who order them
    4. Ensure drop bags are labeled accurately with runner name and bib number
    5. Place drop bags in appropriate bin for Great Divide AS

  • Parking Assistant

    • Where: Oregon Buttes Road and/or South Pass City Parking area
    • Report to: Gabe or Joe (Park Superintendant)
    1. Direct cars to parking locations.
    2. Maximize space and ensure participants are parking appropriately.

  • Course Sweeper

    • Where: Specific aid stations
    • Report to: Aid Station Captains
    1. Run/hike after the start of the race
    2. Ensure all runners make it to the check in
    3. Report injuries, as needed
    4. Get a ride back to vehicle/finish with the aid station crew. (We can help cooridnate rides and work with the aid sattions. If you are volunteering at an aid station, this could be a great add on position from the aid station you are working at.)

  • Pacific Butte Aid Station

  • Kids Race Registration and Race Support

    • Report to: Gabe 
    • Where: Start/Finish in South Pass City

    The kids race will be a 30 minute race allowing kids to run as many laps as they wish to in 30 minutes. After each lap, kids will receive a bracelette to count their laps.

    1. Check in kids and handout bibs for the 30 minute race.
    2. Sign up kids. Record name, age, gender, parent contact, and parent waiver signature
    3. Hand out lap counters to kids
    4. Celebrate each kid as they complete a lap!

  • Finish Line Support

    • Report to: Jenny
    • Where: Start/Finish
    1. Set up tables for food and drinks
    2. Refill water jugs with Skratch
    3. Help serve food and drinks to racers

  • Timing Support

    • Report to: Matt Herr at Timing tent
    • Where: Start/Finish
    1. Record bib numbers on back up timing sheet
    2. Keep Matt happy, entertained, and fed:)
