Shaw Studio - Class Application

General information:

Classes are being offered in 6 week blocks at a cost of

£180 per 6 week block, payable in advance.

Please note it is not viable for us to run a class with less than 5 students per session. The maximum will be 7 in a session.

Please note this price does not include materials - but students will be able to purchase these, at cost, from Elmslie or source their own.

We now have an account at Cookson Gold (www.cooksongold.com) and we will have a card machine and digital scales to weigh any materials you wish to purchase from a selected range - your tutor will handle this for you. If you are not a novice, however - please do bring any materials and hand-tools you wish to use with you.

Unfortunately, if you are unable to attend a class during the 6 week block, we will not be able to offer a refund or provide an alternative session as tutors are paid per session and not per person. However you will be able to nominate someone else to take your space should this apply.

Application process

Where possible, we will offer you your first or second choice.

If neither are available, we will contact you to ask whether or not you wish to go on a waiting list for these specific times, or offer you an alternative time/date/tutor.

Should a session not reach the minimum of 5 we reserve the right to cancel this class until such time as there are sufficient numbers to support it.

Once spaces have been allocated you will be asked to make full payment to secure your space; failure to do so within the specified time will result in your space being offered to the next person on the list.

Once your space has been offered to you, you will then be given first refusal for subsequent courses (subject to review).

Classes will begin

w/c September 8th and run until w/c 13th October

thereafter the last six block will run from w/c 3rd November until w/c 8th December*

Due to Blue Magpie the class on Thursday 13th November cannot run - this will be replaced by a session on Thursday 18th December

Whilst we appreciate that beginners and novices soon advance to become improvers and intermediates, we expect there to be an element of mixed ability in all sessions. However for complete novices, the intial beginner sessions will cover all the basics you will need to progress and tutors are very happy to tailor their teaching to each of their groups in response to the needs of their individual class cohort.

Please note that as one of our tutors, Belinda Gilbert is away for the majority of the first block of sessions, we have found replacement tutors for her on a temporary basis.

Nicola Lillie will be covering Monday mornings and Gemma Farr (also ex Malvern College teaching staff) will covering Monday afternoons.

Please note if you are an exisiting student of Belinda's, if you decide to waive your right to a place in your session because Belinda is away, we cannot guarantee that there will be a space for you in any subsequent block . . .

We know from previous classes that evening provision demand is high - so subject to numbers/demand we are considering also putting on a Tuesday night session with Megan Arnold, who many of you might remember from the college too; despite not being a *paid* member of staff, Megan always seemed to be passing on her considerable knowledge to fellow class 'students' . . .so please indicate here if this is something you would be interested in.
