  • LEARNER CODE OF CONDUCT

    Please discuss the rules of the school with your child.
  • Rules of the school
    The learner, as a person living amongst other people, must learn that his/her conduct may not be harmful to other members of the group. On his/her way to adulthood the learner will constantly be confronted with the norms of society which he/she should strive to comply with unconditionally.
    Learners must understand that disciplinary steps will be taken if he/she does not adhere to the code of conduct or the rules of the school.

    1. The property of the school and that belonging to other persons may not be damaged. Parents will be held liable for damage caused by a learner to such property.
    2. No learner may leave the aftercare premises without the consent of the parents and educators.
    3. Aftercare learners may not wander about the school grounds of Sunridge Primary School without good reason. Learners must clock in at the aftercare when school is adjourned and will only be allowed to attend outdoor activities if confirmed by the parents.
    4. Learners should not be picked up by strangers unless prior arrangement has been made with the owner and the educators involved.
    5. No learner may wait for parents outside the aftercare premises. If a learner needs to be picked up for urgent matters, the owner and the educators involved must be informed thereof.
    6. No dangerous games, dangerous toys, weapons, pornographic material, smoking, tobacco products, alcoholic beverages or drugs are allowed on the aftercare premises.
    7. Bullying, crude language, fighting, stone throwing, victimization, intimidation and any other anti-social behaviour are strictly forbidden. Harsh disciplinary action will be taken against these violations.
    8. All learners must use the pedestrian crossing when crossing Tulip Avenue and Larkspur Street.
    9. Cell phones, PSP’s, I-pads, tablets and similar devices are strictly forbidden.
    10. Class rules must be obeyed. Learners must be quiet and refrain from distracting each other.
    11. The completion of homework is compulsory.
    12. During assessment and in respect of the completion of homework learners must refrain themselves from any dishonesty.
    13. Learners must be friendly and courteous to everyone and must show respect for themselves, each other, the educators and parents.
    14. It is the custom of the aftercare to greet one another.
    15. The hair of the learners must be neat.
    16. The clothes of the learners must be neat and suitable for outdoor play. It is preferable for girls to wear pants or pants under their skirts. No provocative clothing will be allowed. Girls must wear suitable underwear. Should the clothes of any learner not be suitable to outdoor play, he/she will not be allowed to play outside.

    1. THE PURPOSE OF THE CODE OF CONDUCT
    The purpose of the Code of Conduct is to create a disciplined and functioning aftercare environment dedicated to the promotion of the emotional and academic learning process.
    It is, therefore, aimed at:
    • The promotion of positive discipline;
    • The acquisition of self-discipline;
    The Code of Conduct clearly provides for the rights of the individual, but also observes the rights of the group and the aftercare.
    The Code of Conduct serves as a measure to create boundaries within which the learner can feel secure, where a healthy and undisturbed learning culture can be established and the rights of the aftercare invigilator is protected.

    2. MEASURES TO UPHOLD HEALTHY DISCIPLINE

    By signing the Code of Conduct the parents/guardians and learner adhere to the rules and code of Olke Bolke as set out in this document.
    The application of this disciplinary policy is based on reasonableness and fairness. Should a learner fail to obey the code of conduct and the rules, disciplinary steps will follow as a matter of course against such a learner.
    In the event of repeated transgressions, the following steps will be taken successively:
    1. The educator will engage in a conversation with the learner;
    2. The learner will be made to sit in a corner for a period;
    3. The learner will be given extra work;
    4. The parent(s)/guardian will be contacted;
    5. The learner will receive a final written warning;
    6. The learner will be suspended.

    3. The Code of Conduct will be applied firmly, but in a spirit of goodwill, love and support;
    4. The interests of the school receive preference to own interests and demands;
    5. To uphold high academic standards, healthy discipline and good order the co-operation of the learners and parents are crucial.

    4. MAINTENANCE OF DISCIPLINE
    All disciplinary actions must comply with the following:
    1. It must be fair and reasonable;
    2. The punishment must discipline the learner, but must not cause physical or psychological harm;
    3. The punishment must fit the transgression;
    4. There must be transparency;
    5. The learners must be fully informed of the requirements of acceptable behaviour as well as the consequences of any misbehaviour;
    6. The disciplining of a learner is conducted in partnership with the parent(s)/guardian as the person(s) primarily responsible for the upbringing of the learner.

    5. MEASURES TO PROMOTE GOOD DISCIPLINE
    1. Disciplining must conform to the educational requirements of understanding, trust and authority;
    2. Neatness, orderliness, punctuality, perseverance and honesty must continuously be impressed upon the learners;
    3. Reprimanding must be done in a firm but sympathetic manner;
    4. The contents of the Code of Conduct must be impressed upon the learners;
    5. The exercising of discipline must be conducted by the aftercare invigilators in a consistent manner;
