    Guidelines
  • CultureConnect funds projects that forward our mission of empowering youth and families to build a future rooted in justice, global awareness, and cultural understanding. All projects must be a collaboration between students and administrators/teachers and/or staff.

    We favor grant applications that:

    • Cover humanities-based topics that are not addressed in the current curriculum OR that take a deeper dive on aspects of the current curriculum
    • Are experiential
    • Are new and innovative
    • Embrace CultureConnect values of: diversity, collaboration, connection, dynamism, bravery and fun
    • Seek input and participation from the communities being studied/celebrated/explored by the project, and offer compensation to those community members.
    • Have specific learning objectives

    Award Amounts:

The budget for these grants may vary from year to year. While there is no minimum grant amount, the standard maximum is $500; however, larger requests may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

    Deadlines:

We welcome grant applications on a rolling deadline. You can find the application at www.cultureconnectrbk.org and it can be submitted to admin@cultureconnectrbk.org

We will seek to respond to grant requests within 1 month of receiving them.

    Application Process:

Teachers and students with project ideas can apply directly with this application.

Our grants review committee will offer preliminary approval to proposals we believe are worthy of support.

To ensure district buy-in, the grantee must then obtain sign-off on the project from

    1. their school principal,
    2. the director of curriculum, and
    3. the superintendent.

Once district approval is secured, CultureConnect will submit a check for the approved amount to the district business office. The superintendent will ask the school board for approval of that donation, and once the school board approves it the grantees will be notified by the district clerk.

In order to access funds, grant recipients will follow the district-approved processes set by the business office.

    Selection Process:

CultureConnect has a grant review committee made up of board members and other community volunteers. The committee meets at least once a month to review any grant applications that have been submitted.

We attempt to respond to applications within a month of submission.

If funds are no longer available, we might ask the applicants if the project can be delayed until the next budget cycle.

    Responsibilities of Grant Recipients:

Once a grant application is approved, CultureConnect will submit a check for the approved amount to the district business office. The superintendent will ask the school board for approval of that donation, and once the school board approves it the grantees will be notified by the district clerk. In order to access funds, grant recipients will follow the district approved processes set by the business office.

Within a month of completion of the project, grant recipients must send CultureConnect a short recap of the project and summarize its impact, as well as provide a few photos for use on our website and social media. You can find the reporting form here.

Please ensure that all photos are properly vetted by your school district and in keeping with its photo approval and distribution policy. We will provide you with our “funded by” logo and require that you use that on all printed and electronic communication about the project.
