The Rock of Truth sculpture includes the following on the polished surfaces of the boulder:
· “In our quest to find truth, each layer teaches us, and we embrace the pursuit of knowledge. Once we find truth, we test it, respect it, and strive together in the name of progress.”
The four pavers that are currently engraved extend this poetic reflection with these additional thoughts:
· “The unknown beckons. Are we listening?”
· “What does objectivity mean to a subjective being?”
· “Discovery in our collisions, our minds stretch – inspiring future generations.”
· “With inclusivity & kindness, we expand our communities, reshape horizons.”
Please join the conversation by submitting your own insights about truth into one or more of the boxes below. Your statement must be comprehensible on its own but also relevant to the concepts expressed above. Once a year, a committee of university affiliates (Planning, Design and Construction, Sigma Sigma, College of Arts and Sciences, University Art Collection, artist Jon Isherwood) will select and engrave one or more of the most thoughtful and well-crafted submissions on pavers at the Rock of Truth site, and your words will become part of university history. If your submission is chosen, you will also be eligible for a cash award. The committee reserves the right to revise your submission based on stylistic and space constraints. Your submission will remain anonymous.
