Please note: INCOMPLETE APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.

1. All application materials become the property of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®- Beta Epsilon Omega Chapter. Information and pictures submitted with applications for consideration will not be returned.

2. Scholarships for $1,000.00 will be awarded in the following categories: General, Named Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU), Named Memorial, Operation Big Sister, Teenage Improvement Club, and Educational Advancement Foundation (EAF). In addition, book scholarships in the amount of $500 will be awarded pending availability of funds.

Applicants may only apply in one scholarship category. Applicants who apply in more than one category will be eliminated from the competition.

3. The applicant must write a 325-500 word essay on one of the following topics:

A. Describe the impact of political involvement on society. Provide examples to support your position.

B. How does a healthy lifestyle affect psychological, physical, and social development? Provide examples to support your position.

C. As a future leader, how can you affect change in your community? Include specific examples in your writing.

D. Explain the importance of gender equality in education in today’s society. Include examples to support your opinion.

E. What are the advantages and disadvantages of social media as a means of communication? Include examples to support your position.

The essay must be typewritten, double-spaced, and should not exceed two pages. Applicants should include the selected topic at the top of their essay, but should not have their name on or within the essay.

5. Upload essay, reference letters, photograph, and resume (optional) before submitting the completed application. Transcripts must be postmarked by April 6, 2024. Scholarship finalists will be contacted via email regarding the interview schedule no later than April , 2025. Finalists must schedule an interview via Sign-up Genius by April , 2025. Interviews will be held in person April , 2025.

All documents to be uploaded should be saved in the format:

6. The Frances M. Duvall Scholarship awards celebration will be held June 8, 2025.
Scholarship Descriptions

Please read each description carefully before deciding in which category you will apply.
General: Applicants in this category must meet the established criteria and obtain the signature of a school representative. Multiple scholarships will be awarded in this category.

Goodwill Promise Scholarship: Two one-year scholarships in the amount of $1,000.00 will be awarded to high school students with a 2.50-2.99 GPA and 15-18 ACT/790-900 SAT score who demonstrate academic promise and who is a first-generation college student or displays a financial need.

OBS - Operation Big Sister: Applicants in this category must have participated in the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated - Beta Epsilon Omega Chapter Operation Big Sister Service Program from June 2023-2024. One scholarship will be awarded in this category.

TIC - Teenage Improvement Club: Applicants in this category must be current members of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated - Beta Epsilon Omega Chapter Teenage Improvement Club. One scholarship will be awarded in this category.

Dr. Fannie Spence Leake Memorial: Applicants in this category must have documented evidence of 20 hours of community service.

BEΩ Named HBCU: Applicants in this category must attend a Historically Black College or University (HBCU) during the 2025-2026 academic year. Documentation of acceptance or current enrollment is required. Two scholarships will be awarded in this category.

BEΩ Named Book: Applicants in this category must be enrolled as a full-time student in good standing.

EAF: Raygene C. Paige Endowment Fund: Applicants in this category must be a female, undergraduate, Education major, attend an HBCU, attend school or reside in South Eastern Region. Must be a member of AKA.

EAF: Rust College Endowment Fund: Applicants in this category must be a male/female, undergraduate, attend Rust College, live in South Eastern Region, 2.5 GPA or above.

EAF: Lane College Endowment Fund: Applicants in this category must be an undergraduate, male/female, attend Lane College, live in South Eastern Region, 2.5 GPA or above.

EAF: Beta Epsilon Omega Scholarship Fund: Applicants in this category must be a female student, Liberal Arts or Education major, 2.5 GPA or above, attend an HBCU.

Scholarship Criteria

This information is required for need-based awards.
To determine your household size, include:
1. Your parent(s)/guardian(s);
2. The number of children (even if they do not live with you) who will receive more than
half of their support from your parent(s)/guardian(s) between July 1, 2024 and June
30, 2025. You should include yourself and you may include any unborn children if they
