We are excited to know that you are interested in the Cosmetology Program at Newberry County Career Center. This program is a great academic, financial, and time commitment. The information below provides you with the South Carolina Board of Cosmetology requirements, academic requirements, and cost associated with the first year of Cosmetology Program.
Attendance and Academics: South Carolina Board of Cosmetology requires the following:
- 1,000 cosmetology hours and 540 academic hours. Students are allowed 10 absences for the entire year. Excused absences will not excuse or replace cosmetology hours.
- Students must maintain a 75 or higher in Cosmetology, English, Math, Science, and Social Studies classes in order to receive their license.
Documentation: South Carolina Board of Cosmetology requires the following documentation to qualify for a cosmetology license:
- A valid Social Security card and government issued picture I.D.
- Copies of these will need to be made and sent to State Board on the first day of school.
- Students who do not have a social security card will not receive their Cosmetology license, but may complete the cosmetology courses.
First Year Program Cost: $450.00
The cost of the first year of the program is $450.00. This pays for the Cosmetology Kit that is mandatory and professionally approved. This kit will be used throughout the program, and during the State Board Exam. A payment plan can be arranged upon acceptance. Students who fail to make payments will not be able to continue with the program.
Application Details:
- Complete the entire application and submit no later than March 28th. No late applications will be accepted.
- You need the name and email address for TWO references. References are employers/teachers/coaches/etc. (No family members) that will share with us qualities, skills, and attributes that they feel will assist you in being successful in the Cosmetology Program
Cosmetology Applicant Virtual Meeting
At the close of the application, students and parents will be emailed details for the Cosmetology Applicant Meeting. During this meeting we will discuss the class schedule and curriculum, and address any questions and/or concerns.
Due to the limited number of seats available in this course, this application is required for entry into the Cosmetology program.
