We invite proposals that address one of the following categories, all linked to our core conference theme. Each session will be 45 minutes and should include active, participant-centered engagement (e.g., interactive discussions, collaborative activities, or demonstrations). Proposals should clearly indicate the intended audience (e.g., elementary, middle, high school, higher education) and suggest any adaptability for multiple grade levels, if applicable.
Category 1: Strategies for Civil Discourse and Critical Thinking
Focus: Practical approaches to modeling and teaching active listening, respectful disagreement, debate protocols, and empathy at various grade levels.
Expectations: Share successful lesson plans or classroom routines that help learners engage in structured, respectful dialogue. Examples may be tailored to specific age groups or adapted for multiple grade bands.
Category 2: Incorporating Diverse Narratives and Perspectives
Focus: Methods and practices to highlight multiple voices, experiences, and histories that help learners appreciate cultural, social, and ideological diversity.
Expectations: Provide classroom-ready examples that illuminate underrepresented viewpoints, foster empathy, and encourage inquiry. Presenters should clarify how these strategies align with social studies content and how they can be modified for different learner needs and grade levels.
Category 3: Leveraging Technology for Inclusive Dialogue
Focus: Tools and digital platforms that enhance students’ capacity for civil discourse, meaningful collaboration, and authentic engagement.
Expectations: Demonstrate interactive, technology-based strategies that encourage respectful, inclusive discussions and critical thinking. Highlight safe, developmentally appropriate digital practices for the intended audience(s).
