Anxiety: The Missing Stage of Grief Workshop (March 2025)
  • Are you struggling with anxiety after a loss? Join me for a live 90-minute virtual workshop about how to manage your anxious grief. Having written two books on the subject and worked hard to overcome my own grief-related anxiety, I have amassed an incredible amount of tools to share with you to help you manage and even overcome the anxiety you are grappling with. From catastrophic thinking and panic attacks to healthy anxiety and other phobias, we will discuss all the reasons why these feelings arise and learn tools to manage them. Your loss can be recent or even decades ago — this workshop is open to anyone experiencing anxiety after the loss of a loved one.

This workshop is for psychoeducational purposes and for individuals to have a place to talk honestly and openly about their experience of grief-related anxiety. This is a place where you can be honest with yourself and others, and where you may give and receive support. Participants will be encouraged to share about their loss and feelings, but sharing is not a requirement and members will not be called upon. The sharing portion of the workshop will not be recorded.

While Claire Bidwell Smith is a licensed therapist, state-to-state laws prohibit this workshop from being called a therapy group. I understand that this is not therapy. I understand that this is not a substitute for psychiatric care or psychotherapy or medical treatment. The goal is to provide a safe place for you to talk about your thoughts and feelings related to grief. The best thing you can bring to the group is a willingness to listen to others. We do not try to solve every problem, and you do not need to give advice or solutions to others. The facilitator is here to answer questions, to guide the discussion, and provide resources. The facilitator is a licensed therapist.

    Group Guidelines:

Keep everything shared here confidential. We want it to be a safe, secure place for all to talk.
Give everyone who wants to share a chance to talk.
Do not force anyone to share more than they want to.
Don’t give advice or tell others what they should do.
If you want to share a thought with somebody about their story, ask if they want feedback or input before giving it.

Please keep general decorum for this public space – inappropriate clothing, smoking/vaping, and alcohol use is not permitted during support group sessions, even on Zoom.

    Confidentiality:

    • Members should not describe anything discussed in this support group with others outside of group. You may share with others your own contributions to the discussion, but not what others have shared, or any details about other members, including their names, appearance or any other related personal information.
    • I understand that a third party video conferencing solution (Zoom) will be used to facilitate the virtual support group meetings. These calls have been encrypted for protection and by participating in the call, each member has reviewed and accepted the security of the facilitating platform.
    • Members are forbidden from recording group sessions in any way. Personal confidential notes are ok.
    • If you see other group members out in public, please be respectful of their boundaries as some people would like to remain anonymous in the community.
    • The facilitator is not permitted to share personal contact information.
    • The group leader cannot reveal information about me without my written permission.

Self-Care in Emergencies: If at any time I feel like harming myself or injuring another, I will let the group leader know and or contact my individual therapist or psychiatrist. If I cannot reach them, I will call either 911 or go to the nearest hospital emergency room.
