About The Arise And Shine Coding Bootamp and E.S.T.E.A.M.ED Summit: 

The Arise And Shine Coding Bootcamp is an experience filled with inspiration, impactful life lessons, skill building, and networking! A day of virtual events will mark the start of a two-week virtual coding curriculum and students will enjoy curated discussions, engaging motivational speakers, local cuisine, and memorable activities.

Attendees will explore how coding, app development and STEAM training can help them find success in a range of career paths. You'll leave empowered with new life and tech skills and infused with a renewed sense of hope and connections of sisterhood.

Participants will learn to code using Apple’s Everyone Can Code curriculum. In addition to coding, the Bootcamp, now in its second year, will further prepare and empower scholars to be future leaders through lessons in cultivating wellness, creative thinking, esteem building and problem solving. 

 

• The dynamic virtual kickoff event will officially launch the program activation. Participants will enjoy a high-energy virtual event experience filled with positive vibes, inspiring speakers and meaningful connections.
• Throughout the course of the bootcamp's coding curriculum, this cohort will meet virtually for 2 weeks to develop an app project with guidance and curriculum assistance provided by the program sponsor. Our team will provide experts in the field of education and computer science to help integrate and execute the curriculum program.
• Following the 2 week virtual coding curriculum, a culminating in-person event will allow the students to meet and showcase their work. In appreciation of their active participation, each student will receive a $1,000 scholarship.

Application Criteria:

1. Applicant must be enrolled at an HBCU and in good standing. Rising sophomores through seniors are eligible to apply. (Seniors who will still be enrolled in fall 2025 are also eligible to apply.) A current unofficial transcript will be required to verify enrollment.

2. Applicants should be available for the entire duration of the program, which includes both in-person and virtual sessions.

**Selected applicants must be available to participate in the May 29 virtual kickoff event as well as 1 of 2 in-person events. This ensures that participants can fully and actively engage in the program's diverse activities, curriculum and opportunities. In-person events will take place on the following dates .

Thursday, May 29: Virtual Kickoff Event

June 25-27: Florida A&M University, Talahassee, Florida

July 9-11: Cheyney University, Cheyney, Pennsylvania

3. Applicant should demonstrate some interest in coding or technology, though prior experience is not required.

4. The program is open to HBCU undergrad students in all majors/areas of study.

5. Applicants should be collaborative and open to creative problem solving.

Successful applications will be selected by board members of the Arise And Shine Foundation and a committee of the program's strategic planning team.

Mentors, often seasoned professionals who share similar experiences, provide a safe space for mentees to ask questions, voice concerns, and receive honest feedback. This level of support can foster self-awareness, allowing mentees to identify their strengths and weaknesses, and develop strategies to overcome challenges.

Write a brief summary on how you believe effective mentorship can impact those entering the workforce in your particular area of interest.

Essay 2:

Computer science holds immense potential to bridge the technology gap and empower communities.

Offer a brief summary of the innovative ways advancements in computer science can and will transform access to opportunities across a variety of sectors and industries.
