Class wil be led by Kate Tempesta. Kate Tempesta’s education, and early career, focused on exercise science and fitness. She later transitioned to the educational arena where she created and taught the movement education program at St. Thomas More Play Group for ten years. After becoming an LPGA T&CP member, she founded the Urban Golf Academy (2007-2020) to combine her passions for golf, early childhood education, and movement. UGA went on to teach thousands of children ages 3-8 for over a decade. She created a popular summer camp in Central Park that incorporated golf, creative movement, art and dramatic play. She is the Creator of Birdie Basics™, a golf program specifically designed with the child in mind. Birdie Basics™ is licensed to over 100 golf professionals. Kate is a Golf Magazine Top 100 Teacher. She moved to New Canaan in March of 2020 where she teaches group classes for ages 3-8. Kate has one son (Charlie 5).

She will be assisted by Meredith Gray, a certified teacher specializing in early childhood. She received her master’s in elementary education from New York University and has over 16 years teaching experience in NYC private schools, Darien schools and Birdie Basics. She is trained in Learning Without Tears and has tutored children for the ERBs. Meredith has three daughters (Reagan 12, Hayden 10, and Parker 4).

Assumption of Risk:

By the very nature of the activity, golf and the related physical conditioning activities carry a risk of physical injury. No matter how careful the student and the teacher are, the risk cannot be eliminated. The risk of injury includes minor injuries such as bruises and more serious injuries such as broken bones, dislocations and muscle pulls. Sports or any activity that involves motion and rotation in a unique environment carries with it a reasonable assumption of risk. Birdie Basics is bound by law to inform all participants and/or their guardians of the risk involved in the activity of golf and related physical conditioning in general. In consideration for Birdie Basics accepting the applicant, and in consideration of the applicant having an opportunity to improve skills through the use of Birdie Basics staff, those legally responsible for the named enrolling student realize the risk of injury involved and hereby agree to assume the responsibility of such for said student and further agree to save and hold harmless Birdie Basics L.L.C. , its staff and teachers, and all others concerned, and to indemnify them against loss, intending to be legally bound.

Medical Release: I certify that the enrollee has no condition that prohibits full participation in the activities at Birdie Basics. I assume all ordinary risks when the enrollee is using the facilities and hereby release Birdie Basics, or any of its staff or teachers, for any injury or damage suffered in connection with said use of the facility. In case of emergency, if I cannot be reached, I authorize Birdie Basics, its agents and staff, to contact and secure necessary medical attention for the applicant.

Photo Release: Birdie Basics may, in the course of teaching classes and putting on performances, take photographs and/or video that include our enrolled students. If you DO NOT want your child to be included in Birdie Basics advertising / promotional materials / website, etc., please send us an email and we will mark it in your family account.

Electronic transmission of agreement to this Assumption of Risk and associated releases constitute my signature and acceptance in accordance with the registration form submitted.
