  • 2025–2026 Alvera Mickelsen Memorial Scholarship Application

  • What is the Alvera Mickelsen Memorial Scholarship?

  • Alvera Mickelsen, a CBE founder and its first board chair, was a prophetic theologian and gracious ambassador of biblical equality for women. Alvera was a people's theologian, bending her enormous talent to fanning into flames God's gifts and call on women's lives. She was adept at communicating not only with those who sincerely wanted to learn, but also with those who were antagonistic. Without exception, she extended dignified treatment to everyone.

The Alvera Mickelsen Memorial Scholarship (AMMS) is funded by CBE International and made possible through the generosity of Alvera's family and the CBE community. Given the challenges that women face inthe church and Christian academia, AMMS was created to help women answer the call to ministry by providing acadmenic scholarships. The scholarship is designed to provide financial assistance to women who are pursuing a master's degree in a ministry field related to preaching, communications, writing, youth ministry, pastoral work, or nonprofit work.

This year, CBE will award students a $3,000 scholarship to go toward their 2025-2026 tuituion expenses for students who are pusuing a master's degree in a ministry-related field.

  • Who is CBE International?

  • CBE International (Christians for Biblical Equality) is a nonprofit organization of Christian women and men who believe that the Bible, properly translated and interpreted, teaches the fundamental equality of women and men of all racial and ethnic groups, all economic classes, and all ages, based on the teachings of Scriptures such as Galatians 3:28:

“There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.” (NIV 2011)

As a global community, CBE strives to become an interculturally competent organization committed to advocacy for the equality, equity, and leadership of all women regardless of culture, class, race, ethnicity, or age. To that end, we will intentionally and routinely educate ourselves (CBE staff, board members, and stakeholders) on issues impacting women worldwide.

In the spirit of advocacy, CBE collaborates with global pastors, churches, institutions, and NGOs to eliminate sexism, racism, misogyny, gender-based violence, and human trafficking; to raise the status of women; and to promote human flourishing.
