All sessions are ground based and at the barn, with no riding of horses involved in the process. This type of experience is solution-focused, specifically addressing your goals through helping you find your own interpretations and answers, with the help of horses. All facilitators are held to a valuable code of ethics, to ensure you receive the best treatment and care.

Risks and Benefits: Self-discovery has both benefits and risks. Risks may include experiencing uncomfortable feelings, (sadness, guilt, anxiety, anger, frustration, loneliness and helplessness), however, coaching with horses has been shown to have benefits for individuals who undertake it.

Equine Assisted Learning is an experiential process where horses are involved in the sessions. “Experiential” means that you will be involved in hands-on experiences with the horses designed to reflect themes going on in your life. The process is about “doing” along with the “talking.”

Participating in activities with horses can involve an inherent risk including the risk of serious injury or death.
By signing, you agree to take part in this therapy session/workshop/demonstration with the understanding that you will take responsibility for your own safety, and that being around horses entails known and unanticipated risks that could result in injury or death to others or you. You agree to hereby assume all risks in connection therewith and expressly waive any claims or injury or less arising therefrom.

To the extent permitted by law, you hereby agree to protect, indemnify, defend and hold harmless Amy Nava, the treatment team, and all employees, agents, directors, associates, volunteers, affiliates and contract personnel, the hosting facility and all owners, managers, volunteers, employees and persons involved with the host facility and all the participants in the therapy sessions/workshops/demonstrations against all claims/losses arising out of participation in this equine assisted experience.

Why Horses? There are several reasons why we choose to use horses in this work, but primarily it is due to their nature as a social and prey animal. As a result of this nature, they have an extraordinary ability to read our nonverbal communication, picking up on messages we are sending which we are not always conscious of. With this, they start responding to us in familiar ways reminding us of other people and things in our life. It is through this that they become metaphors, providing us the opportunity to work on ourselves in relation to those aspects of our life.

Confidentiality: All sessions and their content, as well as your records will be kept confidential. To the extent possible, you will be informed before confidential information is disclosed.

Group: Facilitators involved in this workshop cannot be held responsible for a breach of confidentiality on the part of group members. However, the facilitators will uphold confidentiality as able.

Emergency Policy: If for any reason there is an emergency situation while at the barn the treatment team will call 911, client’s guardian (if under 18) and notify barn owner immediately. The nearest emergency facilities are Sutter Roseville ER or Kaiser Roseville ER.  For out of session emergencies, your treatment team cannot fulfill all crisis needs and are not able to be available 24/7. In the event of an emergency outside of a session hour please call 911 or a local hotline.

Please Note: There is absolutely NO smoking or vaping at the barn at any time.
