    The Cheltenham Education Foundation (CEF) is proud to offer scholarships to help fund your future! 

    Thanks to the generosity of your teachers, community members, and local businesses, we will offer a total of $21,000 worth of scholarships this year.

    Students interested in applying for a CEF Scholarship must meet the following criteria:

    • Be a member of Cheltenham High School, Wyncote, PA Class of 2025.
    • Provide a CHS student ID number.
    • Meet the specific requirements for each scholarship including submitting a letter of recommendation.
    • If the award is a memorial award, recipients are required to write a 'Thank you note' to the Donor. (Scholarship recipients will receive the name and address with the announced award.)

    Application Instructions

    Please take time to read through the instructions before applying. INCOMPLETE APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED–and we don't want that to happen! 

    Application Deadline: Monday, April 14th, 2025, at 11:59 pm. This is the Monday of Spring Break.

    Please ensure you complete the online application for any amount of the scholarships of which you are qualified and which you wish to apply for. 

    • Make sure you checkmark all the scholarships for which you wish to apply and complete the associated essay for each (scroll to see multiple essay forms).
    • You need 1 letter of recommendation so ask for it now. 
      Teachers and administrators need time to fill out the form, so allow at least two weeks.
    • Pay attention to the criteria for a scholarship and be sure to include all the information needed.
    • Please read the specific requirements for each scholarship and make sure that you have followed the directions and completed the essay. 
    • The Foundation will award scholarships at Senior Awards Night, Monday, May 19, 2025.

    • CHS Panther Proud Scholarship 
    • $500 Scholarship (3 awards given)

      This award is funded by the Cheltenham School District Foundation. It is awarded to two CHS graduating seniors that best describe the benefits of their experience at Cheltenham High School. 

      Requirements:

      An essay describing what student's CHS experience meant to them.

    • Innovative Senior Scholarship 
    • $1,000 Scholarship (2 awards given)

      The mission of CSDF is to support innovative programming across the Cheltenham School District.

      This award will be given to two CHS students demonstrating an innovative idea, initiative, or project they completed while at Cheltenham High School.

      Guidelines for the innovative idea, initiative, or project:

      • Can be comprised of any medium(s) of artwork, animation, audio, video, photos, presentation, or creative writing.
      • Completed at any time during your education at CHS.
      • Can be part of a CHS approved class, organization, activity, volunteering, organizing, or production associated with the school.
      • Does not have to be a program funded by CSDF.
      • Scholarship applications will be reviewed holistically, and all uploaded materials will be evaluated equally.
      • Your description should include the assignment or goal of the project, anyone involved, class or organization affiliated, and any other details that make it innovative.

      Requirements:

      • Brief recommendation from a teacher to supports your innovative project.
      • Describe your project in under 500 words. 
      • You have the opportunity to upload TWO multimedia files to demonstrate your completed initiative including photos, music, photos, video to support your innovative idea.

    • Shooting for the Stars Scholarship 
    • $500 Scholarship (3 awards given)

      Awarded to two CHS students who have demonstrated resilience and perseverance in overcoming obstacles during their CHS experience. 

      Requirements:

      • Letter of recommendation from a teacher or mentor.
      • Write a maximum of 250-300 words on ‘Overcoming obstacles and developing resiliency.’
        • Please describe the events and strategies that helped you overcome this obstacle and how you will use these experiences moving forward.

    • Making A Difference Scholarship

      Awarded to two CHS students who have a passion for improving their community and impacting the lives of others. 

       

      Requirements:

      • Letter of recommendation from a teacher or mentor.
      • ESSAY: Write a maximum of 250-300 word describing 'How I want to make a difference in the world and why this is important to me...’

    • Joe Kircher Scholarship 
    • $500 Scholarship (1 award given)

      Joseph C. Kircher is a highly respected school district employee who made a difference as a beloved teacher, administrator, colleague and friend to many in Cheltenham School District for 36 years. Mr. Kircher possesses the unique quality of successfully leading by example which he incorporated into his leadership role for 17 years as an outstanding principal of Elkins Park School for whom the auditorium was named Kircher Hall to honor him. Mr. Kircher retired from Cheltenham School District in 2003 and is currently the Regional Program Leader for the Pennsylvania Department of Education's Inspired Leadership Program.

      This scholarship will be awarded to one CHS graduate who valued their experience at Elkins Park School and demonstrated leadership, service, strong character, or a commitment to helping others while there.

      Requirements:

      • Letter of recommendation from an EP teacher.
      • ESSAY: "What I loved about Elkins Park School..."
        250-300 words max.

      Recommendation for Joe Kircher Scholarship

    • Barry Brucker Memorial Scholarship 
    • $500 Scholarship (1 award given)

      Barry Brucker was a beloved teacher at Glenside Elementary School and a vice principal at Elkins Park School as well. He was a kind and caring person, committed to making each student and teacher the best person they could be. 

      He made a lasting impression on his students and staff as an educator and mentor. He believed every student had great potential, and he was committed to making Cheltenham Township School District a place of inclusion for everyone. He retired in 2005 after 35 years in Cheltenham School District.

      This scholarship is for students who demonstrate perseverance and a commitment to helping others.

      Requirements:

      • Letter of recommendation.
      • ESSAY: "I have demonstrated perseverance and a commitment to help others by...' 250-300 words max.

    • Learning Journey Scholarship  
    • $500 Scholarship (2 awards given)

      These scholarships will be awarded to two students who demonstrate how they dealt with a learning challenge or difficulty and worked to improve their academic path at CHS.

      Requirements:

      An essay explaining how the student was able to triumph with their learning challenge.

    • G.R.I.T. Scholarship

      This is a scholarship for a student who demonstrates Growth, Resiliency, Independence, and Tenacity in what they have accomplished as a student at CHS, as a graduate of the Skills for Life Program, and in planning for what they want to do next year.

      Requirements:

      An essay explaining how the student has demonstrated G.R.I.T. as a CHS student.

    • Student Activism Scholarship 
    • $500 Scholarship (1 award given)

      This scholarship will be awarded to a CHS student that has participated in social activism within their commuity. The student should share how they have worked to cause political, environmental, economic or social change.

      Requirements:

      An essay detailing their student activism during their time at CHS.

    • Wm. David Webb Memorial Scholarship 
    • $1000 Scholarship (2 awards given)

      Dave Webb served on the Cheltenham School Board during the late 60’s and early 70’s. His belief that education is the path to so many of life’s blessings was deeply held. He lived out this belief in many ways, not the least of which was his service to the Cheltenham school community. This scholarship is intended to benefit a student who is committed to furthering their life goals through higher education.

    • The Green Apple Scholarship 
    • $1000 Scholarship (3 awards given)

      This scholarship is funded by a family in our community to proudly support First-Generation College Students. Applicants will be the first in their families to pursue a post-secondary education by attending a community college, a college, or a university.

    • Avalon Foundation PBL Award 
    • $500 Scholarship (1 award given)

      This scholarship is presented to a senior who has been in the PBL cohort for a minimum of two years (including senior year) and has demonstrated exceptionality in these areas: collaboration, leadership, empathy, design thinking, intellectual curiosity, and creating beautiful work.

    • The Morgan Feona Powell Scholarship 
    • $500 Scholarship (1 award given)

      Morgan Feona Powell was a Cheltenham High School student and member of the Class of 2021. Morgan’s light shined so brightly that it left a lasting impression on everyone who had the fortune of being in her presence; this was true for all of the circles Morgan inhabited whether at school, church, poetry club, work, or with trusted friends. Morgan was a brilliant student and gifted poet. She served as President of Cheltenham High School’s Poetry Club, participated and placed as an award-winning slam poet in CHS’s annual poetry slam competition. Morgan’s emotive way with words raised awareness about both the light and the dark in this world. She treated both extremes with equal urgency and empathy and encouraged all who heard or read her poetry to do the same. 


      To honor the eternal light in Morgan, a $500 scholarship will be awarded annually to a self-identifying female Cheltenham High School graduating senior who can demonstrate their appreciation for the power of words by composing an original poem (free verse or formal verse) of no fewer than twenty lines which sheds a necessary light on an urgent and present-day issue that impacts them on a personal level. Contestants will be required to deliver their original poems in front of a small panel of teacher judges from Cheltenham’s English Department.

    • The Michelle Bellamy Memorial Scholarship 
    • $500 Scholarship (2 awards given)

      Michelle Bellamy was a valued member of the Cheltenham Education Foundation, serving as Vice President and the inaugural chair of the Scholarship Committee.  She worked diligently to share her love of STEM with young women.

      To celebrate her life, this scholarship will be awarded to a female student who plans to study a STEM related field.

       

      Requirements:

      • Female student
      • Must be planning to pursue a degree in a STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) field
      • An essay detailing why you are interested in this field and your goals related to STEM

    • The TVA Scholarship 
    • $500 Scholarship (2 awards given)

      This scholarship is designed to support students who are planning to pursue a technical, vocational or apprenticeship program after graduation. This scholarship aims to provide financial assistance to students who are passionate about acquiring practical skills in a specific trade, vocational or technical field. Applicants are required to provide information about their intended program and goals for attendance.

    • Entrepreneur Spirit Scholarship

      This scholarship is designed to support students who demonstrate a passion for entrepreneurship and desire to start their own business. This scholarship aims to provide financial assistance to budding entrepreneurs, helping them turn their innovative ideas into successful ventures. Applicants are required to demonstrate their creativity, business acumen and commitment to make a positive impact through their business endeavors.

    • The Associate Scholarship

      This scholarship is tailored for students who are planning to attend a community college or earn an associate degree after graduation. This award is designed to empower students to achieve their academic aspirations and pave the way for a successful future.

    • The Artistic Achievement Award 
    • $500 Scholarship (1 award given)

      This scholarship is for seniors who have been actively engaged in the performing or visual arts, whether in school or community settings, and wish to continue their artistic pursuits after high school. Applicants should describe how their participation in the arts has influenced their personal growth and enhanced their lives. The scholarship aims to support students in furthering their creative passions, whether through formal education, entrepreneurship, online platforms or community involvement. It encourages the continued development of artistic talents and exploration of creative endeavors beyond high school.

    • The True Self Scholarship 
    • $500 Scholarship (1 award given)

      This scholarship is for a member of the CHS senior class who identifies as LGBTQ. Applicants are encouraged to share the challenges they have faced in their journey, including personal or societal obstacles, and how they have navigated them. The scholarship also invites applicants to offer advice and support for other LGBTQ students and staff members, fostering a sense of community and understanding. It aims to recognize resilience, strength, and the courage to be one's true self, while providing financial support for future endeavors.

    • The Daniel H. Banner Memorial Scholarship 
    • $500 Scholarship (1 award given)

      Daniel Banner graduated CHS in 1987 and was a proud panther. He had a love for movies and film, leading to a rewarding career at Disney and NFL Films for almost two decades. As an editor and media manager, Daniel was the recipient of a Telly and Emmy. This scholarship is for a senior who is passionate about the art of film, like Daniel.  Requirements:

      • Student who has a passion for film
      • Student must convey a compelling story on any topic in a microfilm up to 90 seconds long and provide a short paragraph summarizing the film.
      • Focus on how editing and cinematography plays a role in creating a thoughtful story. No AI permitted in microfilm. Any other mediums can be utilized (stop motion, animation, live action, etc.).

    • The Scriven Memorial Scholarship 
    • $500 Scholarship (1 award given)

      This award has been established in loving memory of Walter and Medis Scriven who were passionate about the transformative power of education and creating opportunities for all students, regardless of background. As advocates for social justice, they worked to break down barriers to ensure every child could reach their full potential. This scholarship honors their legacy by providing financial support to students committed to academic excellence, community service and social equity. It reflects their belief that education unlocks a brighter future for both the individual and society.

       Applicants should demonstrate:

      • Strong academic record with a grade point average of at least 3.2
      • Leadership potential
      • Commitment to community improvement

      Preference will be given to students who have overcome significant challenges in their educational journey.
