Dear Prospective Applicant,

On behalf of the Secretariat, I thank you for your interest in a staff position at VMUN 2026. Every year, VMUN assembles an outstanding team of capable individuals to play a central role in running the committees program of the world's largest high school student-run Model UN conference. This year, VMUN 2025 took the conference to a new level, hosting more than 1,500 participants from around the world at the Hyatt Regency Vancouver, all while maintaining our high standards for substantive quality. As we prepare for VMUN 2026, we need a talented and passionate team of high school students to help create another exceptional substantive program, continuing the tradition of excellence that VMUN has consistently upheld, especially in quality and accessibility. In striving for the highest substantive quality, particularly in debate, and continuing the expansion of our committees and topics' scopes, our mission has always been, and always will be, to provide each delegate and staff member with a truly transcendent Model UN experience.

Playing a part in VMUN is a challenging and extensive undertaking, involving a substantial amount of time, effort, and skill, but it is also a meaningful and rewarding one. As a staff member, you would be tasked with representing our conference with the highest level of professionalism, building engaging committees with captivating yet contentious topics, and guiding delegates with both compassion and knowledgeability. If you feel that you are an individual who is both willing and able to dedicate your time and energy to these responsibilities, we would highly encourage you to complete the enclosed staff application. Application Information
Three positions are available within each committee's Dais team at VMUN:

The Director is placed in charge of the committee, reporting to the Secretariat. The Director selects the topics, prepares the crises, and writes the background guides. During the conference, the Director is responsible for the flow of debate and success of the committee. A Director applicant should have extensive MUN experience and be prepared to take on a greater commitment than other staff members in order to write background guides and lead their Dais team. Most committees will have one Director. Director applicants must complete the Director Application Supplement below.

The Chair is responsible for maintaining order and running MUN procedure during committee sessions, especially when the Director is encumbered with keeping track of debate or editing working papers. Chair applicants should know MUN procedure well and be confident in their ability to maintain order. Most committees will have one Chair.

The Assistant Directors are the most versatile and help the committee run smoothly. Assistant Directors often end up performing many duties of the Director and the Chair to free up their Dais members' focus. Assistant Director applicants could be less experienced in MUN or less confident in their ability to staff a committee initially; the Assistant Director position is an excellent first-timer gateway to the "behind the scenes" half of MUN. Most committees will have one or two Assistant Directors.

Applicants for a Directorship as their first choice must complete this section. Applicants for a Directorship as their second or third choice are strongly recommended to complete this section.
Propose a new committee you would like to direct at VMUN 2026, and include one topic for that committee in your proposal. Outline the reasons for your committee and topic choice, and explain why it would serve as a good addition to the VMUN substantive programme.
