  • SURRENDER/INTAKE POLICY

  • HARK will accept animals surrendered by the owners under the following procedures:

    1. Individual(s) surrendering an animal must be the owner, 18 years of age or over, or provide a way to contact the owner

    to ensure that this is their wish before the animal will be

    2. A fee will be collected for the surrender based on the current HARK fee list

    a. Adult/young animals will be charged at the individual

    b. Litters will be accepted at a lower rate per the current HARK fee list. *See comments below regarding the acceptance requirements for litters* C. The surrender fee will only be waived upon the discretion of the Executive Director due to extenuating

    3. All animals must be able to be handled by HARK kennel employees and volunteers. Aggressive dogs WILL NOT be accepted, at the discretion of HARK's E.D. or Shelter Manager. HARK will not accept feral cats for adoption and person(s) should be advised to surrender for euthanasia. 4. Animals must be in fair health. HARK will not accept animals that have been seriously injured or near death due to age or disease. The option to euthanize the animal in that

    5. Surrendered animals will only be accepted on days HARK is open and between the hours of 12 noon and 2.

  • *LITTERS

    1. Litters will be accepted but HARK will first offer to assist the owner in finding homes for the litter prior to accepting them into the shelter. In the event the litter is kept and adopted out through the owner HARK will not assume any kind of financial responsibility for the shots or spay/neuter of any of the animal(s)

    2. If litters are accepted for surrender the owner will be required to have the mother spayed at the next spay clinic held at the shelter. the surrender form will have a spot for the owner to sign agreeing to this condition. HARK may help with the cost of the spay if funds are available at the time. HARK will follow up with visiting vet information and ensure that an appointment has been made.

    3. HARK will not accept a second litter from an owner who did not spay the mother.
