    • Statement of Commitment

    • The Center for Public Christianity and New City Fellows seek committed Christians, active in their local church, willing to affirm the historic Christian Creeds, and able to commit their time and energy towards building this intentional community of learning and serving for the good of the City and the glory of Christ.

      New City Fellows Program Commitments

The New City Fellows program is a significant commitment and requires an openness to be challenged and changed by the community learning experience. We ask all Fellows to make the following commitments as they undertake the program.

      • To prioritize and make every effort to participate in all of the program’s meetings and events:
        • Weekly cohort meetings (try to attend your own cohort consistently)
        • Monthly Saturday sessions (once a month, usually 9am-3pm, dates forthcoming),
        • Three weekend retreats (fall, winter, spring), and
        • Daily devotions (5 days/wk), reading assignments (60-100 pp/wk), and several projects.
      • To yield to the Lord, and to allow him to speak and work in your life through His Word, the readings and teaching, and the other Fellows and staff who are members of His body. We ask that you commit to respond however God calls you through Scripture.
      • To engage openly and charitably with the ideas, people, Christian practices and traditions, walks of life, and forms of work and cultural engagement that you encounter in the program — including those that may be new or different for you.
        • Theology — Fellows come from churches in different traditions and denominational affiliations, with any partner church of the program committed to historic, biblical Christianity in its Reformation and evangelical expressions. The program does not require Fellows to subscribe to the beliefs of these traditions wholesale, and the curriculum will include material from outside of these traditions. However, the teaching of the program will glean heavily from them.
        • Readings — While we will draw wisdom from these traditions and others throughout church history, we will also seek to apply or “contextualize” them to the modern world and life in Raleigh/the US today. We may thus read some primary sources which may be written in prose that is unfamiliar and initially difficult to some, as well as newer pieces written by modern interpreters of these traditions. We ask every Fellow to be open to various kinds of readings.
        • Cultural, social, and vocational differences — You will interact with Fellows, speakers, and writers, who come from different walks of life and are seeking to serve the Lord in different ways and in different corners of Raleigh, the US, and the world. We encourage you to hold loosely any preconceptions you may have of what it looks like to follow Christ, to serve the Lord through work, and to engage with culture.
      • To be open to grow in relationship with other Fellows, staff, an assigned prayer partner, and an assigned mentor.
      • To read and respond to communications and requests from staff in a timely manner.
