    This year, seven awards recognizing outstanding achievement in philanthropy will be presented at Silicon Valley Philanthropy Day on Friday, November 7, 2025, at Villa Ragusa in Campbell, CA.

  • Award Categories

  • Silicon Valley Philanthropy Day recognizes individuals and organizations in the following seven competitive categories:

    1. Outstanding Philanthropist
    2. Outstanding Foundation
    3. Outstanding Corporate Grantmaker
    4. Outstanding Philanthropic Organization
    5. Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser
    6. Outstanding Professional Fundraiser
    7. Outstanding Philanthropic Youth Organization 

    Each award recognizes extraordinary contributions to the local community in each category. Collaborative nominations are encouraged.

    In addition to these seven competitive categories, Silicon Valley Philanthropy Day recognizes Distinguished Volunteer Fundraisers. This is a non-competitive category that recognizes the superlative efforts of individuals and organizations who contribute time, effort, and/or financial resources to an organization's success.

    Organizations may submit multiple nominations, but only one nomination per category as the lead nominator. A separate nomination form needs to be completed for each nomination. 

  • Award Timeline

    1. Nominations are due by Friday, October 10, 2025, at 11:59 PM. 
    2. Nominators and nominees will be notifed by October 20, 2025.
    3. Honorees will be publicly recognized at Silicon Valley Philanthropy Day on Friday, November 7, 2025 at Villa Ragusa in Campbell, California.
    4. Regretfully, AFPSV is unable to provide complimentary tickets to honorees or their nominating organizations.
    5. Distinguished Volunteer Fundraiser honorees (non-competitive category) are not required to attend the event. 
    6. All honorees will need to submit photos to be used in marketing and publicity materials as well as the event program.

    7. Collaborative nominations are encouraged. Organizations may submit more than one nomination, but they may only serve as lead nominator for one nomination per category. 

  • Award Criteria

  • The AFP Silicon Valley Chapter has reopened the non-competitive category of Distinguished Volunteer Fundraiser Award to honor those individuals and groups who commit their time and energy to fundraising for our community.

    The Distinguished Volunteer Fundraiser Award is a non-competitive category that offers an excellent opportunity to recognize the superlative efforts of a volunteer or organization who contributes time and effort to your charitable organization’s fundraising success. Individuals, couples, families, auxiliary groups, supporting organizations, and volunteer committees are eligible for this award. Example criteria include:  

    1. Evidence of leadership skills in coordinating and motivating groups of volunteers for a major fundraising project or campaign(s) for the benefit of a charitable organization. 
    2. Demonstrated time, effort, and financial commitment to a charitable organization.
    3. Emerging leaders who demonstrate enthusiasm and commitment to creating better communities. 
    4. Demonstrated commitment to the values of inclusion, diversity, equity, and access (IDEA).

  • The Outstanding Philanthropist Award recognizes a family or individual with a proven record of exceptional generosity who, through direct financial support, has demonstrated outstanding civic and charitable responsibility and whose generosity encourages others to take on philanthropic leadership roles in the community.

    1. Evidence of significant major gift support including a description of the impact of these gifts (0-50 points)
    2. Evidence of a commitment to the values of inclusion, diversity, equity, and access (IDEA) (0-25 points)
    3. Evidence of encouragement and motivation to others to take leadership roles in giving and igniting philanthropy (0-25 points)

    1. Evidence of direct financial support indicated by support of projects in the community, regionally, or nationally, including a description of the impact of this support on these projects (0-50 points)
    2. Evidence of a commitment to the values of inclusion, diversity, equity, and access (IDEA) in their organization and in the community (0-25 points)
    3. Evidence of encouragement and motivation given to others to take leadership roles in philanthropy and community involvement (0-25 points)

  • The Outstanding Professional Fundraiser Award recognizes an exemplary fundraising professional who has at least ten years of experience; has demonstrated persuasive, effective and creative leadership; gives their best as a team member; adheres to AFP’s Code of Ethical Principles and Standards of Professional Practice; displays a commitment to volunteerism; and may participate in and support many nonprofit organizations. 

    1. Description of career achievements, i.e., length and tenure of fundraising background, experience, and results (0-35 points)
    2. Evidence of quality of leadership that is effective, creative, and stimulating, as well as evidence that the individual acts as an effective team player (0-25 points)
    3. Evidence of a commitment to the values of inclusion, diversity, equity, and access (IDEA) in their organization and in the community (0-25 points)
    4. Evidence of commitment to this profession through activities such as: professional education, certification, conference participation, publications, voluntary service in the profession, and/or financial support (0-15 points)

  • The Distinguished Volunteer Fundraiser Award is a non-competitive category that offers an excellent opportunity to recognize the superlative efforts of a volunteer or organization who contributes time and effort to your charitable organization’s fundraising success and who has a demonstrated commitment to AFP's values of inclusion, diversity, equity, and access (IDEA).

    Individuals, couples, families, auxiliary groups, supporting organizations, and volunteer committees are eligible for this award, as are individual volunteers, families, and couples.

    Example criteria include but are not limited to:  

    1. Evidence of leadership skills in coordinating and motivating groups of volunteers for a major fundraising project or campaign(s) for the benefit of a charitable organization, and/or
    2. Demonstrated time, effort, and financial commitment to a charitable organization, and/or 
    3. Emerging leaders who demonstrate enthusiasm and commitment to creating better communities, and
    4. Demonstrated commitment to the values of inclusion, diversity, equity, and access (IDEA)
