AM Workshop Session: 1st Choice

40 Developmental Asset and Life Map Experience: What are the 40 Developmental Assets? An overview of Developmental Assets and how these assets support growth and success among youth. We will complete a life maps activity that aligns pathways to success and assets needed to achieve goals.Mandatory Reporting Process and Procedures: An overview of Delaware's Child Abuse & Neglect Mandatory Reporting Law and the requirements to meet your reporting obligation.Social and Emotional Wellness Strategies for Youth through Mindfulness Techniques: Workshop participants will experience and receive sample lessons from Get Experience in Mindfulness (GEM) Curriculum. Through interactive activities and dialog, we’ll explore integrating these strategies with youth, to create social and emotional wellness. GEM teaches positive coping skills into daily life through breathing, strength and flexibility, and a variety of mindfulness immersion techniques.

Youth Voice - Shared Leadership in Programs: What’s the best way to help young people make good decisions now and as they grow older? Is it by restricting their choices and running your youth program like a drill sergeant? No! As one educational writer says, “Youth learn how to make good choices by making choices, not by following directions.” Organized activities for youth—whether in an afterschool program, a community center, or somewhere else—can provide extraordinary contexts for youth to experience voice, control, and practice decision-making.Philanthropy 101 - Nonprofit Resources: This session will answer the following: Who is Philanthropy Delaware? The Basics of Philanthropy. What are the categories and types of grant makers within the philanthropic sector? What are examples and types of grants? How do foundations give? What are the current philanthropic trends – both nationally and in Delaware?
