Social and Emotional Wellness Strategies for Youth through Mindfulness Techniques: Workshop participants will experience and receive sample lessons from Get Experience in Mindfulness (GEM) Curriculum. Through interactive activities and dialog, we’ll explore integrating these strategies with youth, to create social and emotional wellness. GEM teaches positive coping skills into daily life through breathing, strength and flexibility, and a variety of mindfulness immersion techniques.

Is it by restricting their choices and running your youth program like a drill sergeant? No! As one educational writer says, “Youth learn how to make good choices by making choices, not by following directions.” Organized activities for youth—whether in an afterschool program, a community center, or somewhere else—can provide extraordinary contexts for youth to experience voice, control, and practice decision-making.
