Adjudicator Assistants (Room Captains)
may be current high school, college, or graduate school students, recent graduates, or young professionals.
Recommended Minimum Age: 16
This is a paid position. Students under age 16 may apply for an unpaid position as an intern (volunteer); community service hours are available.
Adjudicator Assistants Job Description
During a series of different competitions throughout the day, Adjudicator Assistants will assist Adjudicators (Judges) by managing the general flow in the audition room, serving as time keepers, and acting as liaisons between the Adjudicators and the Tab Room. In addition, Adjudicator Assistants may help with the processing of competition results and the awarding of trophies.
Adjudicator Assistants Pay Rate
- Adjudicator Assistants serving in their first or second year at SYMF: $148/day
- Adjudicator Assistants serving in their third or fourth year at SYMF: $164/day
- Adjudicator Assistants serving in their fifth or more year at SYMF: $180/day
Adjudicator Assistants will have a 30–45min lunch break and two 10–15min short breaks (one in the morning and one in the afternoon).
Sometimes SYMF needs extra help on the Sundays (July 12 and July 19) after 5:00pm to break-down the competition rooms. Overtime will be paid at $16.90/hour, rounded up to the nearest half hour.

2026 Festival Set-Up Dates
July 10 (FRI), July 17 (FRI)
9:00am–12:00pm
- ALL Adjudicator Assistants: $50/set-up morning
Set-Up duties include hauling heavy tables and boxes. Please dress appropriately (COMFORTABLE clothes you don't mind getting dirty) and wear sneakers!

Job Requirements
- Adjudicator Assistants must be available to work at least TWO FULL COMPETITION DAYS during the 2026 Festival: July 11, 12, 18, 19
- Adjudicator Assistants must have a smart phone/tablet/device for communication purposes during the Competition Day.
- Adjudicator Assistants must attend a MANDATORY online Information & Training Session via ZOOM on July 7 (TUE) from 8:00pm–9:30pm
