  • Program Overview

    The Student Assistant Teacher Program at Dance Central is an opportunity for students to gain a new perspective in the studio.  Through the program, students learn what it’s like to teach a class and begin to build the skills necessary to become a Probationary Teacher here at Dance Central. 

    Successful applicants will be required to participate in the DanceStep Program during their training.  This is theory-based program which can be accessed through our online learning portal.  Subjects include Anatomy, Safe Dance Principles, Self-Leadership, Planning for Performances, Behaviour Management, Teaching Strategies, Learning Styles and Communication. 

    Student Assistant Teachers will be required to complete 20 hours of work experience and Level 1 of the DanceStep Program, before being offered casual employment as a Student Assistant Teacher.  Applicants who wish to join the Dance Central teaching faculty as a Probationary Teacher must have completed two years of assisting and all six levels of the Dance Step Program.

  • Pre-requisites for Student Assistant Teachers

    Applicants must:

    • be a minimum of 13 years of age
    • be a current student in one of our Next Level/RAD Ballet Programs,
    • have significant personal experience in dance and an understanding of dance techniques in at least one genre,
    • have the desire to help young dancers to learn and develop a passion for dance,
    • have the desire to develop a safe, sound teaching practice that is enjoyable and engaging for all involved
    • have good communication and interpersonal skills,
    • have sufficient language, literacy and numeracy levels,
    • have the recommendation of a current Senior Dance Central Teacher.
