    Marion Ray Pippin Sr Memorial Scholarship

  • Big Ray was born in Beaufort County. He attended Washington High School through the 11th grade and completed his high school education by passing his GED. He served his country in the Army National Guard and advances to SP5. Throughout his life he was a mechanic, welder, farmer, bulk truck driver and security guard. He was a member of Bunyan Ruritan Club, Charitable Brotherhood Lodge and was a Beaufort County Farm Bureau board member for over 50 years. He believed in education and hard work. He spent countless hours volunteering for his community. His great love was agriculture. The Beaufort County Farm Bureau Memorial Scholarship is given in his memory and provides opportunities for outstanding students to advance in agriculture, develop leadership abilities and eventually promote Farm Bureau policy. The scholarship provides $1,500 of assistance for one year of undergraduate work.

  • GENERAL ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

  • A. Regularly enrolled in a college or university majoring in agriculture, home economics, or field of study related to agriculture. The two-year agricultural institute at NC State University meets this requirement. Community Colleges and Technical Institute enrollment also meets the requirement.

    B. A resident of Beaufort County or if living outside the county, having parents that are members of Beaufort County Farm Bureau.

    C. Funds shall be disbursed in two equal payments (one payment per semester) as checks made payable to the school of enrollment.

    D. Applicants must provide two letters of recommendation. One from a current farmer and another from a teacher or minister

    E. Applicants must provide proof of 20 hours of community service at an establishment of their choice.

    F. Applicants must provide an essay on how they serve their community currently. This essay must be a minimum of 400 words and be submitted with the completed scholarship application.

    G. In order to continue to remain eligible for this scholarship, each recipient must maintain: A grade point average of 3.0 or better: AND i) A major in agriculture or related field ii)

    H. Failure to maintain grade eligibility in an approved major may be grounds for recession of this scholarship. Reviews of each recipient's transcripts and declared majors are made each semester.

    I. Applicants must complete the Scholarship Application form, attaching a photo, SAT score and transcripts of their high school (and if applicable, college) records.

    J. Submit application to the Beaufort County Farm Bureau Office no later than the second Monday of April of the year the application for screening and processing. All information supplied by you and your family will be held as confidential information.

  • A. Answers on these applications shall be typed or filled by equivalent means.

    B. Complete all portions of the application. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed.

    C. Attach a recent photograph, SAT score and official transcript of high school (college if applicable) academic record to date.

    D. You may acquire additional applications as needed from our office or the attached application may be photocopied.
