About Us: The Anderson Center for the Arts (ACA) is a BIPOC-founded and led non-profit arts organization whose expands arts access in underserved communities, amplifies black voices, and levels the playing field for black creatives through training and development, and residencies that include free studio space, and financial support. Mission: The mission of The Anderson Center for the Arts is to increase arts access for underserved communities and to preserve, share, and celebrate the histories and cultures of Black people. Artists in Residency Details Artists-in Residence will receive A) 1 year of free studio space; B) Personal stipends where funding is available; C) Mentoring; D) Professional development with network and community building; E) Opportunities to create, exhibit/present new public art works. Artists-in-Residence are required to A) attend monthly cohort meetings; B) create a solo exhibition featuring NEW work; C) attend and participate in center events when appropriate D) schedule weekly open studios E) serve as an ambassador for ACA when appropriate. The project will result in an organizational support system, mentoring, training, and increased visibility for participating fellows; the creation of new public art works; 4 public exhibitions & 2 convenings designed to drive discourse about African American history and culture; increased public access to and engagement with African American history and culture through varied mediums as well as engagement with project fellows; and increased preservation of African American history and culture.
