Jason was a uniquely gifted soul who painted an indelible, vibrant mark on the hearts of those fortunate to have shared in his journey. His sudden departure in a car accident in 1997, sent a wave of profound grief through his family, his devoted friends, and the close-knit communities of Glace Bay and his alma mater, StFX University. Jason, who embraced each day with zeal and warmth, created lasting bonds with individuals from every corner of life.

In Jason's honour, The Jason Simmons Memorial Hockey Tournament Society holds a hockey tournament. The proceeds from the tournament are used to support graduates of Glace Bay High School as they embark on their next educational journey.

Bursaries are available to recent graduates of Glace Bay High School that are accepted for study at a University, College or Trade School.

Application Process
- Please submit your application via the form below before Friday May 10th, 2024
- Applicants are encouraged to review the bursary criteria, answer the questions in the form and write a short note explaining why they are a good candidate for a scholarship
- Applications are reviewed by the committee
- Bursaries are awarded using the criteria listed above
- Recipients will be notified about the status of their application within 2 weeks of the date of their application.
Bursary Availability
The fund is supported by the proceeds of the Jason Simmons Memorial Hockey Tournament. It is replenished each year from the proceeds of the tournament. The Bursary Committee appreciates that the need for financial support surpasses the association's means to give each year. With this in mind, the committee uses the information provided on this application to assist them in selecting recipients for a limited number of bursaries.
