  • Johnson Scholars Program Application '25

    Application Deadline: September 1, 2025
  • The Johnson Scholars Program (JSP) is a pre-medical enrichment program that prepares Penn undergraduates to achieve their goal of a career in medicine. JSP recruits primarily first-year students and provides 4 years of progressive enrichment, tiered mentoring, and advising. Johnson Scholars must meet rigorous GPA achievement milestones each year for continued participation in the program. We may have space to accept 1-2 sophomores based on program attrition.

With an explicit focus on opportunity, access, and likelihood of benefiting significantly from the program relative to their peers, factors that are considered in the selection include: distance traveled, obstacles overcome, evidence of resilience and grit, whether the applicant has been socioeconomically or educationally disadvantaged, experienced childhood in a medically underserved community, is a first-generation college student, and whether an applicant would be the first physician in their family, among other holistic factors.

Statement of Equal Opportunity: Consistent with applicable law and University policy, the Johnson Scholars Program does not discriminate based on race, color, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, creed, national or ethnic origin, citizenship status, age, disability, veteran status, or any other legally protected class. We review each application thoroughly and holistically.

    IMPORTANT: PROGRAM ENGAGEMENT

Professional development sessions take place on weekday evenings, and there is engagement on some weekends. If you can not to commit fully to this due to other commitments or opportunities that you are enrolled in, DO NOT APPLY. Regular attendance and high engagement is critical to remaining in good standing in this program.
