📢 #BlackBabiesDoSwim – Interest Form
Since 2016, #BlackBabiesDoSwim has been the only Black-led swim program in Pittsburgh/Allegheny County—and we couldn’t be prouder!
This initiative was created to break the stigma that Black children don’t swim. A 2014 CDC report found that Black children are 10 times more likely to drown than their white peers due to a long history of discriminatory access to pools and swim programs.📊 The reality:🔹 64% of Black children don’t know how to swim.🔹 79% of low-income families lack access to swim lessons.🔹 76% of parents say their child would be more interested in swimming if they saw swimmers who look like them. It’s time to change these statistics!📍 Lessons are held at the Thelma Lovette YMCA in the Hill District.
