I understand that by signing this contract, I am agreeing to the following terms:
Basics
1. As a programmer, I will strive to produce the best quality work on CJSW's broadcast. The continuation of my program is at the discretion of the Program Director and in accordance with the terms of this contract, the CJSW Volunteer Contract and any other organizational articles of governance or operations. All privileges I have as a programmer expire with the expiration of this contract.
2. I understand that being an on-air programmer at CJSW is a privilege, and I must treat it as such. I am a volunteer first, and programming is something that I've been entrusted with executing.
3. I understand that my program is subject to reviews and audits at the discretion of the Program Director.
4. This contract expires a year after the day of signing it. As with my annual membership, I am expected to sign this contract each year to continue on-air privileges.
Responsibilities
5. I accept responsibility for the guests I have on my show and will inform the Program Director at least 1 business day in advance of any guests I plan to have on-air.
6. I will inform the Program Director of any absences with as much advance notice as possible. If I require a show fill, I will inform the Program Director, and find someone to take my place. If I cannot do so, I will provide a pre-record, or notify the Program Director in a timely manner to find someone to take my place.
7. I understand that I must abide by the station's workplace harassment policy and mission, vision and values. These documents can be found behind the Volunteer Coordinator's desk at the station.
8. I will treat all equipment and property of CJSW with respect. I will not deface, willfully damage, or vandalize any station property.
9.I will not remove any property from the premises of CJSW without prior permission of staff.
10. It is my responsibility to make every effort to attend all mandatory station general meetings and meetings requested by staff.
11. As a programmer, I will make an average volunteer contribution of 2 hours a month in addition to hosting my program.
12. I will be on time for my program. If I will be late, I will inform the Program Director, as well as my show neighbours.
13. I will respect my show neighbours' timeslots and not interfere with their broadcast or the booth space during their program.
Promise of Performance
14. I get to broadcast in an environment that supports inclusivity, representation of the underrepresented, creativity, and fun. I will actively work to support these values on air.
15. I will consistently meet Canadian Content, Local, and Chartlist requirements as allotted to my show. I understand that CJSW's mandate includes representation of local artists, and that CJSW's library is an extensive resource for local music of all genres, which I will utilize to meet requirements.
16. As a programmer on CJSW, I am a representative of the station when I am at CJSW or at station events. Additionally, I recognize I represent CJSW at public events and on social media. I understand that I will be held accountable with how I treat the station's license and public reputation.
17. I will not engage in slander, libel, or defamation of any sort while broadcasting on
18. I will use good judgement to apply context around explicit language. I will not play hateful content or offensive language on the airwaves.*
19. CJSW is a community building organization. I understand that as an ambassador of CJSW, I must treat all volunteers, fellow programmers, station guests, and staff with the same respect I wish to be accorded.
20. While on-air, I will not broadcast any unauthorized advertising, paid endorsements, or solicitation of funds.
21. I will not promote interests that conflict, financially or otherwise, with CJSW during my program. If I am a producer of music, I will not play my own music on air. I will use my best judgement to prevent any conflict of interest while hosting my program. (Ex. Promoting a personal podcast or musical project, promoting a gig your band is playing at and identifying yourself as a member of that band, promoting your organization and identifying yourself as a member of that organization
Consequences for Breach of Contract
22. Failure to meet these responsibilities will result in disciplinary action that may include some or all of the following:
- Disciplinary meeting with the Program Director and/or Station Manager
- Implementation of a performance plan on a case by case basis
- Show suspension
- On-air privileges revoked
- Membership suspension or expulsion from the University of Calgary Student Radio Society
