In this hands-on, beginner-friendly workshop, you’ll explore one of the most intuitive and satisfying methods of working with clay—the pinch pot—while creating a beautiful, ocean-inspired piece embedded with sea glass.
We’ll start with a brief introduction to clay handling and the pinch pot technique, focusing on forming, compressing, and shaping your vessel for both strength and aesthetics. You’ll then learn how to thoughtfully incorporate sea glass into your piece, considering placement, depth, and how the glass interacts with glaze during firing to create those organic, coastal textures and color variations.
Participants will:
• Create one to two small pinch pots or shallow bowls
• Learn proper clay compression to prevent cracking
• Experiment with embedding sea glass for decorative and functional results
• Explore simple surface design and finishing techniques
No prior experience is necessary—this workshop is ideal for complete beginners as well as those looking to loosen up their practice and reconnect with hand-building fundamentals.
Clay is included. Bring your own sea glass or available for purchase. Finished pieces will be glazed and kiln-fired, ready for pickup in approximately 2–3 weeks.
Come get your hands dirty and leave with something uniquely yours—each piece capturing a bit of the sea in clay.
