TEXTURE ROLLER AND PLANT POTS 5-7PM 5/25- LEE

In this hands-on, beginner-friendly workshop, you will make a slab-built plant pot using texture rollers for surface decoration.

We’ll start with a brief introduction to clay handling and the slab technique, focusing on forming, compressing, and shaping your vessel for both strength and aesthetics. You’ll then learn how to thoughtfully incorporate texture and design into your piece, considering placement, depth, and how the design will interact with glaze during firing to create organic textures and color variations.

Participants will:

• Create one planter.

• Learn proper clay compression to prevent cracking

• Develop a texture roller that can be used in future clay projects.

• Explore simple surface design and finishing techniques

No prior experience is necessary—this workshop is ideal for complete beginners as well as those looking to loosen up their practice and reconnect with hand-building fundamentals.

Clay, glaze, firing, plant and soil is included.

Finished pieces will be glazed and kiln-fired, ready for pickup in approximately 2–3 weeks.

This intermediate-level handbuilding course is designed for students ready to expand their skills and work at a larger scale. The focus of the class is coil-built sculpture, guiding students through the process of constructing more complex, dimensional forms.

Each session builds progressively, with instructor-led demonstrations, technical guidance, and individualized feedback. Students will explore structure, balance, and form while developing a cohesive sculptural piece. Surface treatment options include both glazing and cold-finish techniques.

The course also incorporates peer feedback and critique, encouraging thoughtful discussion and artistic growth. Professional photography of finished work is included.

Each 2.5-hour class includes a brief educational and review component, along with demonstrations and hands-on work time.

Topics include (but are not limited to):

• Advanced coil building techniques

• Structural integrity for larger forms

• Sculptural composition and design

• Surface development and texture

• Glazing and cold finishes

• Critique and refinement process
