This intermediate-level handbuilding course is designed for students ready to expand their skills and work at a larger scale. The focus of the class is coil-built sculpture, guiding students through the process of constructing more complex, dimensional forms.
Each session builds progressively, with instructor-led demonstrations, technical guidance, and individualized feedback. Students will explore structure, balance, and form while developing a cohesive sculptural piece. Surface treatment options include both glazing and cold-finish techniques.
The course also incorporates peer feedback and critique, encouraging thoughtful discussion and artistic growth. Professional photography of finished work is included.
Each 2.5-hour class includes a brief educational and review component, along with demonstrations and hands-on work time.

• Advanced coil building techniques
• Structural integrity for larger forms
• Sculptural composition and design
• Surface development and texture
• Glazing and cold finishes
• Critique and refinement process
Course Price: $450
Studio Policies & Inclusions:
• 25 lbs of white stoneware clay included
• Maximum use of 50 lbs of white stoneware during the course
• Additional clay available for purchase
• Glaze and firing included for one sculpture.
• Studio glaze use only
Students will have access to a personal storage space for their sculpture during the course. At the end of the session, students are responsible for removing or disposing of unused clay unless continuing into another course. Clay may be repurposed by the studio upon request.
