  • Thank you for your interest in residing in Summer Housing at MICA!

    The MICA Residential Community will be made available for students (both undergraduate and graduate level) at MICA who are taking summer courses, are employed at MICA, or are a part of a MICA-related program or internship.

    a 48 hour contract extension is available for emergencies only and will be reviewed on a case by case basis. If a student is approved for a contract extension, their apartment must be ready for inspection on Monday, May 12, 2025. 

    The Summer Housing period will be between 12:00pm (noon) on Monday, May 12, 2025 and 12:00pm (noon) on Sunday, July 27, 2025.

    • Summer Housing will primarily be for students who are enrolled in Summer Courses. However all students are welcome to apply.
    • Summer Housing will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis.
    • Summer Housing application has a $75 non-refundable application fee.
    • Summer Housing will cost $250 per week for the length of stay. For billing purposes, Summer Housing weeks begin on Monday and end on Sunday.
    • At the moment, the Office of Residence Life is considering the end of Summer Housing to coincide with the last day Summer Courses are offered.
      • Students who are enrolled in courses and have a housing assignment for the Fall 2025 semester will be permitted to extend their summer stay through the start of the Fall 2025 semester.

  • Housing Accommodations

  • MICA makes reasonable academic accommodations for qualified students with physical or mental disabilities in accordance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act.

    The Office of Accessibility and Disability Services (formerly LRC) supports students by providing equal access to educational opportunities to qualified students with documented disabilities. In order to request a disability accommodation, a student must submit an online request form, along with supporting documentation that meets MICA’s guidelines.

    Prior to receiving your housing assignment, we ask that you notify ADS and Office of Residence Life of any additional on-campus accommodation needs. Accommodations may include:

    • Meal Plan/Dietary Accommodations
    • Emotional Support Animals

  • Summer Housing Stay Information

  • As a reminder, the Summer Housing period will be between 12:00pm (noon) on Monday, May 12, 2025 and 12:00pm (noon) on Sunday, July 27, 2025. If any changes are made to the dates, the Office of Residence Life will communicate to the residents.

  • Contract Extension Costs

    A 48 hour contract extension is available for a $150 fee. Any student wishing to remain up to Wednesday, May 14, 2025 at noon should select the "Contract Extension" option below under the summer housing start and end dates.

    Summer Housing Cost

    Summer housing is available for a $250/week rate. The billing week begins on Monday and ends the following Sunday. Students who stay for any part of the week will be responsible for the full week rate.

    Students are allowed to pay for a specific number of weeks based on their need for summer housing. Students who remain on campus for the entire summer will receive a 10% discount on the full cost of summer housing.

    *-students who are already living on campus for the Spring 2025 semester will begin Summer Housing on this date, but will not move into their summer assignment until instructed to do so by the Office of Residence Life.

  • Bridge Housing

    Students who are registered full time for Fall 2025 classes and have a housing assignment for the Fall 2025 semetser are eligible for Bridge Housing through Wednesday, August 20, 2025.

    Students who remain on campus for Bridge Housing should be prepared to move into their Fall housing assignment by Sunday, August 10, 2025. All summer housing keys must be returned tot he Office of Residence Life by 9:00 am on Monday, August 11, 2025. Any students who do not return the keys to their summer housing assignment will be charged for a full replacement of the lock core on the front door of the unit, along with the replacement of the lock core on the assigned bedroom.

  • Timeline

    The Summer Housing Application will remain open from April 1, 2025 until May 5, 2025. Following the closing of the Summer Housing Application, approved Summer Residents will receive email notification regarding their Summer Housing Status and the instructions on how to move into Summer Housing Assignment within the designated Residence Hall.

    The Summer Housing period will be between 12:00pm (noon) on Monday, May 12, 2025 and 12:00pm (noon) on Sunday, July 27, 2025. If any changes are made to the dates, the Office of Residence Life will communicate to the residents.

  • Deposit and Billing Information

    Once the Summer Housing Assignment has been approved, notification will be sent over to Student Accounts with the billing information.

    Summer Housing for the 2025 Session will be calculated as follows:

    • Housing charges will be rated on a weekly basis.
    • Each applicant who is assigned will be charged a non-refundable summer housing deposit of $75 in addition to the costs for housing.

    The housing charge is $250 per week or any part thereof. For billing purposes, Summer Housing weeks begin on Monday and end on Sunday. Any student who remains at the beginning of a new week will be billed for the full week. 

    If you are assigned summer housing and do not move into your assigned space, the $75 non-refundable summer housing deposit will still be billed to your student account.

  • Termination and Cancellation

    If there are any changes to your housing status, you must let the Office of Residence Life know by calling (410) 225-2398 or emailing residencelife@mica.edu no later than May 2, 2024 for changes to be made without incurring any financial penalties.

    Any changes in housing between May 3rd through May 11th will result in the $75 non-refundable summer housing deposit and an additional $50 cancellation fee.

    Any requests to withdraw after the move-in date of May 12th will result in the total cost of a week of Summer Housing being added to the student's account.

    If there are any breaches in this contract, the Office of Residence Life is able to impose an early termination of the housing contract period and assess any costs associated with such early termination.

  • Damages

    If there are any damages to the unit, the associated costs will be billed to your student account.

    Residence Life, Facilities Management, and Building Services are responsible for all repairs and determine the cost of the damage.

    The amounts charged for damages are predetermined and are based upon charges for time, labor, and materials. The cost to repair or replace fixtures in rooms may NOT be appealed.

    Final apartment inspections are NOT conducted by student staff at the time of check out. The Office of Residence Life professional staff team is responsible for assessing damages in apartments and conducting inspections within 48 hours of departure.

    If keys are misplaced or lost, it must be reported in 24 hours and may cost up to $250 to replace.

  • Nontransferrable Agreement

    Students are prohibited from taking a roommate or apartment mate or assigning, leasing, licensing or in any other manner transferring their interest in this license agreement or permitting any part of their rooms or apartments to be shared by persons not duly assigned by the Office of Residence Life. Unauthorized duplication or transferring of apartment keys or MICA ID’s is prohibited and will result in severe disciplinary action up to and including dismissal from housing with no refund provided.

  • Access to Apartments

    Both Residence Life staff and maintenance staff occasionally need to enter apartments without prior notification. Staff will knock on the door and announce who they are before entering an apartment. The College maintains the right of immediate access in emergency situations to the premises without prior notice to the student and with or without resident presence whenever the College, in its discretion, decides that such access is necessary and proper to determine that all provisions of this agreement and the rules and regulations of the College are being complied with or to protect the safety and/or health of any person or property.

  • Prohibited Items

  • Alcohol

    • Students are responsible for observing the Maryland State Liquor Law regarding possession or consumption of alcohol. The legal age to drink alcohol is 21 years. Consequently, students under 21 years of age may not possess, be in the presence of, or consume alcohol.
    • Students 21 years and older may drink alcohol in the privacy of their own bedroom.
    • Students 21 years and older may not serve, provide, or purchase alcohol for students or guests who are under 21.
    • In the event that an apartment is shared by both those over and under 21, it must be clear to any designated College official that alcohol is being consumed only by those 21 years or older.
    • Students 21 years or older may not have alcohol present at events or parties in their apartments at which people under 21 years are present.
    • Multi-quart containers, i.e. kegs, beer balls, etc, are not allowed in student apartments including those of people 21 years and older.
    • Violations of any alcohol policy may result in housing probation, suspension, or expulsion from on-campus housing.
    • Open containers of alcohol are not permitted in any of the public or common spaces. Students violating this policy are subject to disciplinary action by the College, and possible arrest by police.

    Illegal Drugs

    • The possession, use, distribution, and sale of non-prescription drugs or narcotics is expressly prohibited by federal, state, and local law and regulations as well as College policy.

    • Use of illicit drugs by students is grounds for severe sanctions including expulsion and may result in referral to authorities for prosecution.

    • Misuse and or distribution of prescription drugs are also prohibited.

    • Additionally, no drug paraphernalia is permitted in the residence halls (including but not limited to hookahs, bongs, pipes, etc).

    Weapons

    • The possession, maintenance, or use of firearms, weapons, or explosives of any nature or description (fireworks, any other device of explosive nature, bows and arrows, crossbows, sling shots, guns, ammunition, and knives other than those typically used in artwork, or any other weapon), is prohibited on campus. Violators will be subject to disciplinary action. Prop items may fall under this category dependent on the intent and use.
  • Safety

    • Behavior which threatens or endangers the safety of one’s own well-being or the well-being or property of other persons is prohibited and may result in immediate dismissal from campus housing.
    • Throwing any object from apartment windows or balconies is an example of such prohibited actions.
    • Students, guests, and visitors must evacuate the apartments when a fire alarm sounds.
    • Tampering with, disconnecting, or obstructing fire alarm bells, smoke detectors, or other fire equipment is prohibited. Any responsible individuals may be subject to prosecution and/or arrest, and/or dismissal from campus housing.
    • Fire doors cannot be used to enter or exit buildings and should not be opened except in emergencies.
    • Additionally, candles, incense, and smoking are prohibited in the residence halls. Electronic items deemed to be a fire hazard will be confiscated.
  • Renters Insurance

    Maryland Institute College of Art is not responsible for the loss of or damage to students' personal property. A tenant’s personal possessions are not protected from theft, fire, or water damages under the College’s insurance. Residents are strongly encouraged to obtain renters' insurance to protect your personal property as well as provide protection for a negligent loss to a third party.

  • Confirmation of Agreement

    I agree to the terms stated above, and further agree to indemnify and hold the College harmless from any and all claims, demands, actions, causes of action, damages, expenses, losses or liabilities arising in any way from or out of the occupancy, use, or enjoyment of the premises by me, my guests, and invitees.

    By signing this license agreement, the student agrees to observe and abide by these policies and those stated in the Residence Life Guide, the MICA Campus Safety Guide, and the MICA Academic Bulletin as the same may be supplemented and amended, and all other College rules and regulations, and agrees with the College that the Occupant has no right to the exclusive possession of the assigned Housing space, and grants to the College and its agents the right to enter the space assigned to the Occupant for inspection, maintenance, and repair, and for any other purpose deemed necessary by the College.
