Under the Hay Youth Taskforce's "Empowering Hay's Youth" initiative, Hay Youth aged 12-24 will be provided with the opportunity to complete FREE workshops to support them gaining employment and key life skills.
All workshops will be held at TAFE Connected Learning Centre, cnr of Pine and Cadell Sts. Workshops will be delivered by the Australian School of Entrepreneurship which provides workshops for young people, delivered by young people.
SUNDAY 27th APRIL
10am - 12pm: Independent Living
Participants will understand rental/ living situations, the advantages and disadvantages of living independently, important personal documentation and create a budget for themselves. Learn the essentials of managing daily life with ease. Participants will be shown different applications and websites that can help them live independently, comfortably.
1pm - 4pm: Money Essentials
Participants develop essential skills in managing income, tracking expenses and planning for financial stability. Through engaging activities, they also learn practical strategies to save for the future. The workshop will touch on concepts such as loans/credit schemes, tax, interest rates, super and which ones benefit their age group the most. Our workshop will help participants build a healthy relationship with money, teaching them strategies to set and achieve financial goals with confidence. Each participant will take home a FREE book, written by ASE Group CEO Taj Pabari called Young, Dumb and Financially Independent - What school didn't teach you about money.
MONDAY 28th APRIL
10am - 4pm: Advocacy and Leadership
Ideal for those that want to make a difference - Understand how to create change and make your voice heard. Build skills in campaigning, influencing others and public speaking. The content will take a strengths based approach, discussing topics such as building good relationships & the three levels of government (who has power/ who are the decision makers). Participants will learn how to navigate and lead effectively during periods of change and uncertainty while building resilience to handle challenges.
TUESDAY 29th APRIL
10am - 12pm: Entrepreneurship (Be Your Own Boss!)
Around a quarter of Aussie 18-26 year olds (Gen Z) run side hustles or small-business ventures. Entrepreneurship is the process of creating, developing, and managing a new business venture with the aim of generating profits or creating value. We lay the groundwork with the core concepts and principles of entrepreneurship, before diving into creative problem-solving. Participants will gain skills to analyse situations, make informed decisions and creatively solve problems in dynamic environments. There will be many interactive activities!
1pm - 4pm: Ideation
Participants will develop their critical thinking and craft solutions to local/ community problems or opportunities. We will deep dive into the participants' proposals, evaluating their feasibility and societal impact. The workshop culminates with participants presenting their refined ideas (feasible solution/ social change idea/ business idea) in an investment "Shark Tank' pitch style, simulating the experience of real-world entrepreneurship scenarios.
Young people aged 12- 24 years are invited to apply for a FREE place on these courses.
Places are limited. Older youth may be prioritised for the Independent Living and Money Essentials workshops.
Subsidisation of the workshops is funded under the NSW Government’s Regional Youth Investment Program.
