Board Member Expectation Statement
Please note, Volunteer McKinney's Board of Directors is a working board.
General Expectations:
1. Support Volunteer McKinney's mission, vision, values, purposes, goals, policies, and programs while knowing its strengths and needs.
2. Suggest possible nominees to the Board who are persons of achievement and who can make significant contributions to the work of the Board and the progress of Volunteer McKinney.
3. Serve actively on committees of the Board.
4. Participate in the planning of activities and events sponsored by Volunteer McKinney.
Meetings:
Meetings:
1. Prepare for and participate in the monthly Board meetings, committee meetings, and Board retreat/orientation.
2. Ask timely and substantive questions at Board and committee meetings consistent with personal conscience, convictions, and ethics, while supporting the majority decision on issues decided by the Board.
3. Maintain confidentiality of the Board meeting and closed executive sessions and speak for the board or Volunteer McKinney only when authorized.
4. Board meetings are held on the 2nd Wednesday of the month unless otherwise determined by the Board President & Executive Director.
Board meetings are scheduled to run 7:30am-9:00am.
5. 75% meeting attendence is expected. The board meets in-person, but Zoom is available on an as-needed basis. It should be the exception, not the norm.
Events:
1. Prepare for and participate in the monthly Board meetings, committee meetings, and Board retreat.
2. Ask timely and substantive questions at Board and committee meetings consistent.
3. Board members are expected to attend our annual Spirit of Volunteerism Awards dinner and Make a Difference Day, annually.
- Make a Difference Day - 4th weekend of October (depending on year)
- Spirit of Volunteerism Awards Ceremony (Typicaly in April)
- Quarterly Executive Leadership Breakfasts (optional, but encouraged)
4. Community events and engagement oppurtunites are encouraged but optional.
Avoiding Conflicts:
1. Serve Volunteer McKinney rather than any particular interest group or constituency.
2. Avoid even the appearance of a conflict of interest that might compromise the Board or Volunteer McKinney and disclose any possible conflicts to the board in a timely fashion.
3. Never accept or offer any favors or gifts from or to anyone who does business with Volunteer McKinney.
Fiduciary Responsibility:
1. Exercise prudence and sound fiscal practices with the Board in controlling and transferring funds.
2. Faithfully read and understand the financial statements and otherwise help the Board fulfill its fiduciary responsibility.
Fund Raising:
1. 100% Board participation in annual contributions to Volunteer Mckinney.
2. Assist Volunteer McKinney in the development and implementation of fund development strategies.
3. Assist in fundraising as needed.

Personal Contributions: We expect each Board member to make an annual financial contribution to our organization. This personal investment, regardless of the amount, is a testament to your dedication and support of our mission.
Identifying Funding Opportunities: Leveraging your professional networks and expertise, we ask that you actively seek and identify potential funding opportunities. This includes pursuing grants, sponsorships, and partnerships that align with our organizational goals. Your efforts in this area are crucial for our financial stability and growth.
By fulfilling these commitments, you will play a vital role in advancing our mission and ensuring our programs and services continue to thrive. We greatly value your participation and look forward to the positive impact your contributions will bring.
