What to Expect Next in the Volunteer Recruitment Process
Thank you for selecting a shift time and expressing interest in becoming a Membership Volunteer! The recruitment and onboarding process includes several important steps to ensure a safe and supportive environment for everyone:
Interview: If selected to move forward, your first step will be an interview with a YMCA Leader.
Reference Checks: If the interview is successful, you’ll be asked to provide three professional references. These should be individuals who have supervised you in a work or volunteer setting. Teachers or coaches may also be acceptable.
Background Check: Once your references are received, you’ll be asked to request a Vulnerable Sector Check from the Waterloo Region Police.
Note: The cost is $20, and the YMCA of Three Rivers covers the renewal cost every three years for active volunteers.
Acknowledgment of YMCA Policies: You’ll be required to read and acknowledge the YMCA of Three Rivers' policies and procedures.
Mandatory AODA Training: You’ll need to complete a free online Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) training. It takes approximately one hour.
Safeguarding Children & Youth Training: You must complete an online YMCA training, which takes approximately two hours. This e-learning course reviews best practices for Safeguarding Children & Youth.
