  • What are the requirements for attending Volunteer Weekend?

    • Pre-register by May 15th
    • Arrive either Friday evening or by 9am on Saturday
    • Provide approximately 10-15 hours of service over the course of the weekend, sharing our general work schedule
    • Work with your assigned team to complete the designated tasks
    • Adhere to these policies: no smoking, no pets, and no open flames. You can read more here.
  • What are the dates?

Shadowcliff relies on volunteers for the entire month of May!

This year Volunteer Weekend is Friday, May 23rd to Sunday, May 25th. Over this holiday weekend, people with a wide variety of skills and talents come together to prepare Shadowcliff for opening.

Earlier in May is reserved for folks who can assist with specific construction projects or help in the kitchen. Volunteering during this time requires pre-approval. If this interests you, please contact our Facilities Chair, Duncan (duncanfoss2@gmail.com), with the skills you have to offer and the dates you are available and he will be in touch with you to confirm.

  • Do you have volunteer opportunities outside of May?

Yes we do! Once we open for the season we sometimes supplement our paid staff with volunteers. Please send an email to our General Manager, Kimberly (operations@shadowcliff.org), to learn more.

  • Who can come?

Anyone who is willing to work hard and help where needed is welcome. Shadowcliff has a lot of stairs and uneven ground, so anyone with mobility concerns should take that into consideration.

Children are welcome and are often some of our greatest helpers. Please be aware that all children are the responsibility of their parents or guardians.

Pets are not allowed, with the exception of certified service animals.

  • What is the cost?

There is no fee for the weekend, although hosting a large group of volunteers on site requires the full engagement of our staff, so we hope you'll consider leaving a generous gratuity. In exchange for your hard work, we'll provide certain meals, lodging for the weekend, and the company of some of the most amazing people you'll ever meet.

  • What are the details/schedule?

We ask that you work with your assigned team on Saturday and Sunday, providing 10-15 hours over the course of the weekend within the guidelines of the schedule listed below. Team leaders will ensure breaks during the workday, and common meals will be offered at designated times.

Visiting the village of Grand Lake, taking hikes, and visiting Rocky Mountain National Park are also encouraged in your downtime over the weekend.

Shadowcliff will provide the following meals:

Breakfast (8am-9am) on both Saturday and Sunday

    Lunch (12-1pm) on Saturday

    Dinner on Saturday (6pm-7pm)

Volunteers are on their own for dinner Friday night, as folks arrive at varying times throughout the evening and into the night.

For those who choose to stay Sunday night and depart Monday morning, lunch and dinner is also on your own.

Shadowcliff offers two full guest kitchens, one in each lodge, where folks can store and prepare their food, and the town of Grand Lake has some great cafes, coffee shops, and restaurants to choose from.
