Apparel Design Lab: Designing On Purpose Apparel Design Program was created to give youth the opportunity to learn about career options and pathways to succeed as a fashion design creator. The program aims at empowering youth by giving them a voice through fashion, guiding through the design process and teaching them how to develop a storyline that can be expressed through graphic design. Participants will also learn how to use software for design creation, as well as the Cricut and heat press vinyl for printing final designs.
Additionally, the program provides resources for starting a brand, information on different printing methods, and emphasizes the importance of quality and knowledge about fashion trends, ecommerce, and dropshipping. During the sessions youth will be split up into groups of designers and product creation teams to come up with a marketable design that influences positive change.
The goal of the program for students is to create their own unique apparel using their own ideas and experimenting with the Cricut Maker and heat press vinyl.
