2025 ANNUAL SCHOLARSHIP ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA AND INSTRUCTIONS
The Links, Incorporated is a volunteer service organization of concerned, committed and talented women who are linked in the chain of friendship and are interested in enhancing the quality of life in various communities. The organization was founded in 1946 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and presently has 299 chapters located in 42 states, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of the Bahamas and the United Kingdom. Its membership consists of over 17,000 women.
In making contributions to society, The Links, Incorporated focuses on educational, cultural and civic activities. The Baltimore (MD) Chapter of the Links established a scholarship program for African-American high school students to attend Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). The scholarship is designed for graduating seniors from Baltimore City high schools to receive an assigned mentor to work with the student during their time in college and up to $1,500 per semester for four years. To be eligible for consideration, students must:
- Be a graduate of a Baltimore City high school;
- Plan to enroll in a Maryland historically Black college or university as a full-time student in the Fall;
- Have a minimum GPA of 2.8;
- Have demonstrated financial need;
- Have provided service to the community through involvement in organizations, volunteer groups, or extracurricular activities;
- Be creative;
- Have effective oral and written skills; and
- Demonstrate organizational and leadership abilities.
In addition to the application, students must submit an official transcript (which includes SAT or ACT test scores), a copy of their Student Aid Report (SAR), two letters of recommendations from a current teacher, school counselor and/or community member and an essay. Only applications with all required documents completed will be considered.
