The So Sports Foundation (So Field Hockey’s nonprofit)
Both orgranizations operate under the vision of increasing field hockey’s visibility, affordability, and accessibility for all players with an emphasis on elevating underrepresented athletes. The questions below will reflect on these core values.
Visibility: So Field Hockey’s first principle focuses on introducing more athletes to the sport while increasing its popularity amongst spectators, growing umpires and coaches. Pick a group- players, coaches, or officials- How would you increase “visibility” or participation and get more of them into the game? Example: how would you help the number of officials to grow or how would you encourage current players to become coaches. Be specific on HOW and WHAT you would do. (250 word max)

Affordability: So Field Hockey’s second principle focuses on decreasing costs by providing affordable (inexpensive- think under $50) playing options like free clinics and low cost play days as well as free equipment. How would you increase the sport’s “affordability”- for example, if you say fundraising, what type of fundraiser, who would be involved, what would you sell or how would you solicit (ask for) donations? Be specific on HOW and WHAT you would do. (250 word max)

Accessibility: So Field Hockey’s third principle focuses on providing more playing opportunities. Currently, most playing opportunities are only for athletes who play on a club. What are ways, events, or opportunities where athletes can play and practice more besides playing “club” (travel) field hockey? ALSO, what are ways to promote these opportunities so that more athletes know about them? For example: fall or summer leagues, community play days, etc. Be specific on HOW and WHAT you would do. (250 word max)
