The body keeps a score of everything you’ve ever felt. Like the times you swallowed your words when you needed to speak up, or the inherited patterns of living in survival mode. The body remembers even when the mind tries to forget. And as you begin to heal your mind and spirit, God, the Universe, or whatever divine force you believe in, calls you to submit to your body asking you to release everything that you’ve been carrying so that you can feel.
The Lions Gate: Turned on by the Sun is a yoga retreat that centers movement, sound, and ceremony as the vehicle for transformation.
Movement: Yoga is a safe teacher in the art of submission. It directs your awareness inward and granting you the opportunity to fully inhabit your body. It invites you to explore your boundaries, to lean into the spaces where you can expand and embrace more connections with yourself. Over the course of 4 days you will go on a yoga journey that brings you into submission with your body. Each flow will honor your bodies innate wisdom, enhancing your ability to listen and respond to its subtle cues.
Sound: The jaws primary function is to control the oral outlet, but under prolonged stress, whether from anxiety, fear, or trauma, it instinctively tightens as a form of protection. Similarly, the pelvic floor responds to perceived danger by contracting, especially when there is unresolved anger, anxiety, or negative associations with intimacy.
Throughout the weekend, we will explore the connection between voice, movement, and release. You’ll be guided to relax your jaw and let go through sound, moaning, laughing, humming, sighing, and singing all of which mirror the natural movements of a woman who is turned on in her life.
Ceremony: The theme for the Lion’s Gate journey is “Turned on by the Sun”. By definition, to be “turned on” means to be full of, inspired, or awakened. In that definition is a simple truth: that to be turned on, you must be sensitive to feeling. On the day of Lions Gate 8/8 we will enter a ceremony that spans sun up to sun down. Yoga is a medicine on its own but when paired with a series of micro doses it invites a deeper release of trapped emotions, stagnant energy and fear. Using this you will experience what it feel like to get out of your head and into your body.
Ceremony will ask you what would happen if you listened to your body? If you allowed yourself to feel? If you gave your body the space to unwind, to soften, and to surrender to the pleasure it was always meant to hold?
