To Whom It May Concern,
As a Daufuskie Island stakeholder, I wholeheartedly endorse the DITMA efforts to establish safe, dependable, efficient, convenient, affordable, and environmentally friendly ferry service that fulfills the promise of a maritime highway connecting the South Carolina Lowcountry and Georgia’s Coastal Empire. For too long, the residents, property owners, and business owners on Daufuskie Island have been provided with a public ferry system that has been decently inadequate at best, dangerously inadequate at worst, and woefully unpredictable over the long-run. Critical concerns such as hurricane evacuation planning and lifeline issues of freight and cargo are either unresolved or addressed in a manner that cannot meet the needs of the current population. I agree that the broader system envisioned by DITMA will not only address the myriad issues caused on Daufuskie Island by the current and past public ferry efforts, but also provide benefits to the larger coastal region that, in turn, will justify the investment of public funds.
Please accept this letter of support as my way of encouraging the appropriate public stakeholders at all necessary levels to work in cooperation with DITMA to bring this vision to reality.
