Now entering its 88th season, the Festival draws over 100,000 people during its ten-week series of world class performances in the outdoor setting of Sigmund Stern Grove.     Reporting Relationships
    The Assistant Bar Manager reports directly to the Bar Manager. In addition, the Bar Manager works closely with the Safety and House Managers to ensure safe and successful operations.

    Position Description

    Stern Grove Festival’s Assistant Bar Manager will assist the Bar Manager in overseeing weekly scheduling of staff as well as on-site, administrative operational needs with a focus on effectively managing time clock operations including confirming staff availability weekly, break scheduling, payroll reporting, radio and uniform distribution and return, and incident reporting. The Assistant Bar Manager will facilitate completion of all Bar Reports, incident reports, and any other production information into a daily operations report.

    The Assistant Bar Manager is required to assume the position of Bar Manager should the Bar Manager become incapacitated or unavailable.

    Standard Bar duties include helping with Bar equipment set-up and strike, crowd control and patron services, emergency response protocol, and any additional duties that pertain to the smooth operational functionality of the venue.

Stern Grove Festival attempts to accurately estimate the amount of time required to perform these job duties and expects the employee to uphold their commitment to the working arrangement.

    Working Arrangement and Hours

    • Must be available every Sunday: May 18, 2025 - August 17, 2025 (except Memorial Day Weekend)
    • Must be available Saturday August 16th
    • Up to 16 hours weekly advance and onsite venue work from May - August

    Responsibilities

    • Serve as BarManager should Bar Manager become incapacitated or unavailable.
    • Manage time clock operations for all staff including daily iPad kiosk set-up and storage, assisting staff with clock in/out functions, generating real-time reports for managers, and ensuring staff verify working hours before departure
    • Provide Bar Manager with real-time staffing levels and identify and contact late/no show staff for formal reporting.
    • Schedule and coordinate breaks for Bar Staff and other staff on concert Sundays
    • Maintain daily equipment dispersal including radio and jacket distribution and return, and any equipment troubleshooting required.
    • Compile all completed leader reports, incident reports, and any other production information to be delivered to the Bar Manager by the end of the working day.
    • Assist Bar Manager in management of daily set-up and strike of concert venue.
    • Ensure enforcement and compliance with all rules and regulations in the Grove, including maintaining clear aisle ways, smoking rules, restrictions on blanket size, unclaimed items, etc.
    • Help the Bar Manager train and manage staff to ensure high standards are held in regard to staff professionalism and performance.
      Help Bar Manager empower staff to articulate and embody the Festival’s mission.

    Requirements

    • Must provide valid RBS certification. (More Info)
    • Previous experience in a management role within the hospitality industry, preferably in a festival, bar, fair or event setting.
    • Provided training to bartenders and additional staff on POS system operation and troubleshooting techniques to improve overall efficiency and reduce errors.
    • Become an expert on the POS system and have strong knowledge of techniques to eliminate downtime and quick problem solving skills.
    • Strong leadership and organizational skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire a team to achieve common goals.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with guests, staff, and vendors.
    • In-depth knowledge of beverage service techniques, including mixology, beer, and wine selection, and familiarity with industry trends.
    • Understanding of relevant laws and regulations governing alcohol service and a commitment to upholding compliance standards.
    • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities and situations.
    • Must be reliable, punctual, and able to work all 2025 SGF event days including working evenings, weekends, and holidays on off event days.
    • Provide detailed breakdown of events sales, customer habits, and all products sold each and every event. Due on Monday following each Stern Grove Festival date.

    Reporting Relationships
    The Assistant Bar Manager is part of the Operations Department. The Assistant Bar Manager reports directly to their Bar Manager under the direction of the Festival Operations Manager.

    Compensation
    $27 per hour plus a split of 10% of all bar donations from patrons for shifts you work. Donations will be added as one lump sum at the end of the season to your last paycheck.
