This event has proved very popular in recent years and we hope that each club will be able to support it again this year. This competition is a great way of enjoying a Farm Walk and learning at the same time.
Leweston farm is a family run dairy farm farming across 550 acres of grassland, arable and wood land. The farm grows its own grass, maize, wheat, barley and cover crops.
The herd consists of 260 pedigree Holstein cows calving AYR, with all youngstock reared on farm and genomically tested. The cows have been milked in 4 Lely A5 Astronauts since August 2024 after the conversion from Herringbone twice a day milking.
They are focused on profitability and growing/utilising forage from platforms, maximising soil health, trialling different grazing methods and species within leys.
The evening will begin with a farm walk/ tour, competitors are allowed to make notes throughout and then complete a multiple choice question paper back at the farm. A refreshments will be provided and prizes will be awarded on the night.
There will be 1st, 2nd & 3rd prizes for both juniors and seniors. This competition has two trophies, juniors (under 21) – ICI HENLEY MANOR CUP and seniors – BLANDFORD & WEBB CUP, prize money will also be provided.
