1. Engagement Intern - Connect Jewish students to Hillel via 1:1s, Shabbat hosting, and creative new projects. These positions are designed for those who want to help create their own new and unique engagement opportunities. This is a 2 semester position and pays a $500 stipend upon successful completion. Approximate time committment 2-3 hours per week. Students can apply to be a General Engagement Intern or focus on one of the following areas:
Potential Engagement Intern Areas of Focus Include:
- FreshFest/Freshmen Engagement Intern: Lead FreshFest, our early move-in experience designed to help first-year students build connections before the semester starts. Continue fostering first-year engagement throughout the year by organizing events, facilitating small group meetups, and serving as a welcoming mentor for new students.
- Senior Year Engagement Intern: Help create meaningful experiences for seniors as they approach graduation. Plan social gatherings, networking opportunities, and milestone moments to celebrate their time in college and help them transition into post-grad Jewish life.
- Shabbat and Holidays Intern: Bring the joy of Shabbat and Jewish holidays to campus by planning engaging, creative, and inclusive celebrations. Support students in hosting their own Shabbat dinners, coordinate holiday programming, and ensure that everyone has a space to celebrate in a way that is meaningful to them.
- Israel Intern: Serve as a resource for students interested in learning more about Israel. Organize discussions, cultural experiences, and educational programs that help students engage with Israel in a thoughtful and dynamic way.
- LaunchPad Intern: Support the LaunchPad mentorship program by helping match students with mentors based on interests and goals, and by coordinating meaningful connections throughout the year. Assist in designing and facilitating workshops focused on leadership, career exploration, and personal growth.
- Campus Climate and Community Intern: Promote Jewish life and create an inclusive campus by engaging with different communities, including student government, media, culture/faith centers, advisory groups, Greek life, student organizations, and academic groups. Create policies, partnerships and opportunities to help Jewish students find meaningful connections and leadership in every part of campus life, and for others on campus to better understand our community.
2. Advancement/Development Interns - Collaborate with Hillel staff on fundraising, donor relations, marketing, and more! This is a flexible position, with a strong preference for applicants who can work a full year. This is a 2 semester position and pays a $500 stipend upon successful completion. Approximate time committment 3-4 hours per week. Students can apply to be an intern that focuses on one of the following areas:
Potential Advancement/Development Intern Areas of Focus Include:
- Social Media Intern: Help tell Hillel’s story through engaging and dynamic social media content. Create posts, manage accounts, and develop strategies to reach more students, alumni, and supporters. Experiment with creative campaigns to highlight student experiences and upcoming events.
- Photography Intern: Capture the energy and community of Hillel through photography. Attend events, take high-quality photos, and build a visual archive that showcases student life and special moments. Work with the social media and marketing team to ensure our digital presence is vibrant and compelling.
- Website Intern: Keep Hillel’s online presence fresh and engaging by managing website updates, adding new content, and ensuring information is accessible to students, alumni, and supporters. Work closely with staff to develop creative ways to showcase Hillel’s impact.
- Development/Fundraising Intern: Play a key role in donor engagement by supporting fundraising initiatives, writing thank-you notes, and helping plan donor appreciation events. Gain valuable experience in nonprofit development, stewardship, and alumni relations.
3. Service Engagment Intern - Service Engagement Interns will spend the academic year learning about community organizing in our broader Madison, WI community and creating opportunities for others to volunteer too. You'll explore ethical service and its connection to Jewish values as well as take relevant, meaningful, and tangible action to make the world a better place. Areas to focus on include Civic Engagement, Food Insecurity, etc. Service Engagement Interns will receive a $500 stipend from Hillel in recognition of their work.
