    In the steps of Darwin: the geological and natural history of the Ring of Fire and the Galapagos Islands
  •  Eligibility and Selection Criteria:

    • Must be a classroom or informal science educator or a pre-service teacher
    • Must be comfortable with a somewhat unpredictable environment and reasonably fit; we will be going on a number of field trips and you will likely have to walk, hike, get muddy, wet, etc.
    • Must be available for the entire program scheduled for July 13-30 (inclusive of land-based field trip following the expedition)

    DEADLINE: April 21

    Components of a completed application include:

    • this application form
    • a letter of recommendation from a current or former employer or adminstrator as appropriate
    • a draft dissemination plan for what you will do with the knowledge and skills learned in this workshop (it just has to be preliminary because we hope that it will change over the course of the experience)

    If you are selected, travel, lodging and expenses to/from both ports will be covered.

  • We are encouraging applicants to apply in teams of two: a pre-service and in-service teacher who can closely collaborate. If you cannot find a partner, please reach out and we will try to match you up.

  • If accepted to the 2025 School of Rock, you will be expected to:

    • Arrive on schedule and participate in all aspects of the expedition from San Diego to the Galapagos and land-based field trips.
    • Participate in pre- and post-workshop webinars.
    • Create a realistic plan for your dissemination activities.
    • Share your experience with colleagues.
    • Participate actively in post-workshop evaluation.
    • Adhere to all shipboard drug and alcohol policies
